I've disliked strats for decades, so...

I saw this on sale (still not cheap), and for some strange reason really wanted it.

I'really dislike gaudy gold hardware, and I have had 3 Squire strats which I disliked...

Just seems to be a lovely spec, best of the 50s and every era since. Sounds great too in the clips. Since I got a cab and a 5w head, I like playing on the 5w setting with some early breakup, but it's just that bit too loud for home use with the SGs (both of which I've now sold), so I was using the tele-thing-fugly-bastard that tried to kill me in neck position with the lil 59 humbucker split - sounds really nice at the volumes I can use at home (I probably shouldn't have taken the single coil out, but the lower output 59 bucker - yes, you read that right - sounds sweet when split. So, for the first time in years, I'm starting to get into the basic single coil sounds; they can rock (I think I forgot that somewhere along the line...).

But, at US$1300 it's the price of a new 2017 cherryburst SG standard; very hard to justify. &, I've been eyeing a local 2017 cherryburst up, watching the price drop from $1400 down to $1150...

Spotted this Fender Mexico Deluxe Series Deluxe Players Strat at US$900 (still not cheap), and thought if it had a splitable bucker in the bridge it could be really cool; kinda like this:

But, for some insane reason, I am wanting some more gold, some bling, some 50s bling!

So, I was playing around on the net, looking at sexy guitars, pushing buttons on the site I was logged into (not being able to read Korean, it was all Chinese to me, or double Dutch), and I got a message on my phone which might indicate that I bought something. I have bought from this website before (turned up in great time and perfectly set up), so if something turns up at my door on Monday or Tuesday then I would have bought something.

I'll add it to the thread if and when it arrives. &, yes, there is gold!

Betty, My first experiences at a music store were trying out Strats in the mid/late 70's when I was about 15 I'd say. I was lucky to try some through some Marshall combo's at a great music store at that time. I dug the large headstock ones back then. What happened a few years later. In 1982/83 I get a Used Black GIBSON LP. I tried to learn but my slow fingers could not replicate what my ears heard so like a dummy I wound up selling it in around '91. I miss that guitar like I miss family.

Then I decided to try playing again around 2000-2002 and a buddy took me to see his friend at a Pawn shop and I walked out with a Gun Metal LP Std and a Fender Princeton Chorus amp for $700. After selling both of those, I got a replacement Strat. It is a 1989 Am Std Black n White one with rosewood board, and was my only guitar for years. Now I bought and sold numerous others but kept it. I even acquired a Maple Board version as it's Fraternal twin. It now resides amongst the other cousins, SG's, Tele, LP and acoustics and basses.

I am sure you can find a sweet Strat, maybe even privately sold ones that won't break the bank.

Nice stories Chilli, and I am worried about the price...

Gball - I'm sure you're right - everyone needs a strat.

I'm sure you fellas know about Korean made guitars, Agiles, PRS SEs, Chapmans, LTDs, many many more, but there are some brands which are considered to be right at the top level of any Korean made guitars, but only sold in Korea and not well known outside of Korea. Supposedly, the best of these is Beyond. Sometimes, in big sales when shops shut down (pretty common here, sadly...), you can get 40% off of these guitars - that's what I decided to go for.

Gold!

Vintage tuners.

Bone nut.

Neck style and pickup style that I wanted - I went for a rosewood fingerboard.

This guitar seems to be very closely based on the two Fenders above... I am told that the quality of these Beyond guitars is higher than Cort, and if that's true then this will be a very nice guitar. If it's made to the level of the PRS SE guitars then I will be very happy.

Have a look at the pics/spec then guess at the price:

It should, he says..., match a classic vibe Squire, and at the total cost, delivered to my door, of US$350 (although I have seen them for sale in local shops at just under US$700).

That thing looks really nice! Let's face it, they are pretty damn simple things to make, it's hard to dick up a Strat or Tele. It's just the bits that bolt on to it that make price differences. That's going to be a nice axe.

I been playing my Legacy a lot more than usual lately as I have been working on some stuff that is cleaner and spacier than what I normally play. They really do have a sound that you simply cannot replicate with any other guitar. I've been toying with the idea of dropping a humbucker in the bridge to make it more versatile.

DAMN VOLUME KNOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OH--- on a side note in reference to my GOLD status in the strat world......KINGLY Tutt-un-COMEON ---

whats the vibe? FLOAT the trem ---- Dive Bomb only --- or deck and block????????

whats the deal who does what

Are Chinese Copies expensive in Korea? RVA and a few others here have bought ones and assembled em or doctored em up if already built. Agile comes to mind. Also, now that you mention PRS SE's, I owned one once. Decent guitar. Think I got it for about $350 US over here.

I rarely see a Chinese copy here; the Koreans make guitars between the $250-$1500 which are very good, so no reason to buy a $200 Chinese knock-off which will be lesser quality. Even a basic Cort strat for under $200 is as good as a $350 Squier, imho - Korea has similar cost of living and salaries to the US, and most things are expensive, but there are some excellent locally made guitars if you're willing to buy a Korean unbranded or maybe the same guitar branded as a PRS/Fernandez/Ltd, etc for an extra $200+.

The PRS SE range is good value, but I didn't bond with mine - I dont like the wide and flat necks.

Thanks, the sand colour with gold from the 50s Fenders, vintage tuners, bone nut, a bit more oomph from the pickups, but with a modern neck and bridge just seems to make sense. &, I agree, some strats are really pricey now; a Fender Elite, which has the specs I want, is $2000 which is a lot of money for something that's obviously very nice, but not that much nicer than a $350 strat (to an amateur like me anyways).

G&Ls always seem really nice, I can certainly imagine owning one at some point. Stars with 5 positions, maybe more with a coil split, are certainly versatile.

The statement, "I've disliked Strats for decades," makes me sad.

It was just a marketing scam to encourage traffic to the thread! :D

What I mean is, I've had bad experiences with 3 Squiers and 1 pretty bad Ibanez super-strat, but a lot of that was my fault as a poor purchaser/player. I've always rated Fender highly and appreciated strats (just liked teles a bit more - probably should have both, and an SG and a LP and...).

Now, it's time for my Clapton strat stage... (y)
