I've disliked strats for decades, so...

Yeah, that's pretty much it. I don't orient my outer springs at an angle like he does, though.

Keep in mind, since the strings and springs are always in equilibrium with each other, the tuning is pretty dependent on that. If a string breaks, the entire guitar will be wildly out of tune! Also, I've never set my Strat up for dive-bomb only, so I don't know if that offers better return to pitch after trem use than a floating setup.

Just a thought.

Oh, one other thing. The bridge plate will probably be at an angle when you set it to float, with the rear a bit higher than the front. This is unlike a Floyd Rose. With a Floyd, the goal is to set things so the bridge plate is parallel with the body. The rear of my Strat bridge is about 3/32" above the body surface.

Floating my Floyd Rose with 4 springs. The Tremolo Stop is only in place for string changes.

I been running 5 springs on the 1987 Squire Stratocaster since new...

I play a Stratocaster for comfort. I work hard to kill the quack...

It's always interesting how different things feel to different people. I don't find Strats to be all that comfortable, but they make that sound that only they do. Note that I can't stand the 2 & 4 positions, the "quacky" ones. I only use one pickup at a time for the most part, unless I am playing something that was originally recorded with an in-between sound...in fact I ought to put a 3-way switch in the damn thing.

So, I was hoping it'd arrive yesterday or today, but then I got a text message saying I'd cancelled the order. The only reasoning I can offer is that maybe I clicked on the reserve for 3 days button (can't read Korean...)?

Hmmm. What to do?

^ my wife is Thai, and she has sharp knives - I need to take great care not to be bobbited...

I am doing something about the strat, and I'm just about to do another thread; this search has taught me that there are loads and loads of nice strats available.

Hope you find a Strat you like Mr Grumpy, "your" Strat. I played Strat style guitars & strat's exclusively for better than a couple of decades, so have owned quite a few, including a hardtail (SSS) that I shouldn't have let go. I've tried the trem (vib) blocked, decked & floating & for me it has to be fully floating, as Leo designed it to be. A blocked or decked trem does not equal a hardtail, which tonally is its own animal. I still have a very nice Strat, a 2012 SSS select, for when I need the Strat sound, (nothing does Strat like a strat). Strangely, I don't find strat's comfortable, to me a Les Paul is comfortable. Cheers
