THANKS BOCC69 and OWEGI!!!!

YEah.....no reason ---for ME anyway--- to spend THOUSANDS on amps------ though I have played through AC30's and WALLS of PEaveys and stuff.......my hearing issues dont allow me to turn the ones I have above Vol level 4 ever....usually I am around a 2.5. So why realistically would I need 1000 WATTS of Bugera BASS power Chris???? Why ask???? ---- because I WANT IT!!! ;)

Adrian, I found your bass amp's long lost twin brother on Ebay...for only $89.99! He just needs a bath. You'll need to drive to Taylors, SC to pick him up:

Those sort of prices are the reason I built this.

It was a real learning experience but worth it.
Nice, and I finally can see the pic... Yay! What kind of amp circuit is this?
Anymore pics of the "goods"?

Hey Wavmixer! These voting threads kind of lose the voting bit because it is at the start of page 1, and here we are on page 4, so it is now lost in the mists of time. Is there any way to place it at the end, so it is always right there below the most recent post?

Good idea, if it can be done.

Ok,

Let me respond in a different way....I'm super practical. If I had $1,000,000USD I would still buy a Ford Mustang. If I had limitless funds to spend on an amp, it would be a re-issue JCM 800 Full Stack. There isn't anything better, at any price, from my experience in live performance settings...although I would have to buy a new Ford Flex just to transport it.... :)

I gigged with a JCM-800 (2204 with a 4x12 slant) from the mid '80's through early '90's. It was a workhorse of an amp, but the problem I had was I sounded like everyone else with it. The 800 had basically become the "generic hard rock tone" amp because it was so ubiquitous during that time period. When you put on recordings from the era its all 800 or modded 800 that you hear. I got rid of it primarily because of that - I just needed something a bit different than what every guy out there was running through. Same thing happened in the '90's with Rectos - everyone was playing them so you heard the same tone at every gig.

It's a JTM 45, running a pair of KT66s. The only difference between mine and everyone else's clones is that I wanted the inputs on the left (where they're supposed to be, look at a tweed Bassman), the power switch is on the back and both that and the standby operate in the "up" position. Just because I want the sound doesn't necessarily dictate that it has to look like a Marshall. :)

I voted the cheapest check box, up to $450. I think it was. Big surprise huh?
I cant justify and dont have big money to spend, on anything. The house and bills get paid first.
My skill level doesnt justify it either.
The folklore of the legendary amps intrigues me but I dont have any Holy Grails that I pine for.
I drool a bit sometimes, like when 67plexi posts ^^^^^^, but more so in reverence for the legacy and role in music history.

The Silkyn Super 50, with the impossible to find off the shelf replacement PT totals out at $416.
My other amps: 10w peavey practice amp $40 used, my son uses it daily- now with my G400.

the clone builds: 5F1/5F2a Champ with Princeton tone pot, 5E3 Deluxe, and 18w TMB, each come in at well under $300. each.
the fit and finish is not store bought looks wise, but the tones deliver.

I can cover a lot of tone ground with these, except the hi gain stuff.
I'm happy with what I have and expect to be for a while.

I wont turn away from another Ubuy find: with major parts on the cheap I'll build whatever I can, especially since I fab chassis and cabs that are good enough.

^^^^ This is me also, almost word for word. My Silkyn is my main play-out amp, along with the Monoprice 15 watter, also Peavey Delta Blues 115 gets some time also. Been tinkering with another small lapsteel amp that was a garage find, (1947 Kiesel, founder of Carvin). I do like to tinker, haha.

I voted "other", because I'd spend however much I could afford on whatever amp I wanted at any given time. The most I've spent is about $1100 for my Vox AC30C2 (new). Right now I want to have a tech look at the Gibson Skylark I recently bought (but I'm away on holiday at the moment...), and I can't afford much more than that. But I know if I ever get another amp I will save up money to buy something really sweet. And I'll have plenty of time to save, because I'm very happy with the amps I have at the moment.
