The only guitar that I have ever bought new is my 2011 Gibson SG Standard. Out of all of them it is the one I am the least happy with. I bought it via eBay without playing it ... it was my first Gibson, I assumed they had great QC ... it seems that the neck angle issue is common on SGs, mine is not as extreme as that guy's but I started top-wrapping it for that reason, the tailpiece sat up too high otherwise. Also I had separation of the binding from the fretboard that was repaired under warranty. I eventually replaced all of the electronics and hardware in the guitar for nicer spec components, although in the end I found the guitar to be too bright for the 500K pots that I installed so I installed the stock harness from my 2007 SG Special and put the brighter harness in that guitar with the darker pickups.
I have never bought a new guitar since. I have bought two Gibsons via eBay since but I guess I was lucky. They were second-hand too. I won't buy Gibson again as three is enough and to be honest I prefer Schecters over them now. If I was able to afford an expensive new guitar it would probably be a Framus or something like that, something with a 25.5" scale.
