Some unhappy Gibson Owners

Very nice looking guitar Chubbles and imagine $180 dollars . It goes to show you that offshore makers are getting better and better. I have been impressed with some of the work coming out of Indonesia. Those guys are building some nice stuff. I had a Fender Squire Infiniti that was my starter guitar, the quality was very good, the guitar was a great player. I have played 2 Hamers made in Indonesia both guitars paint work , binding fret work all very good for $499 dollars. I can tell you Gibson has excellent competition out there and its hurting them, the Big Brand name is slipping, if they don't get their act together soon, there only option left will be go overseas, and from what I see with their shotty workmanship, it might be better for them. I have a hard time believing it will. The workers overseas are hungry for a job and they are putting Pride into there work. Its not the name Gibson that's the problem, its the people representing the name. Sometimes a real change is what's best for a Company.

I am in no way, shape or form trying to defend Gibson. I just really enjoy mine. I like the way they play, I like the sounds I get out of them and I love the feel in my hands. I am not a professional player, so I don't adapt well to different scale lengths and I have relatively small hands. They just work for me. They might be a lot better guitar if they were made overseas. I don't know. I want to get one of those imported Gretsch hollow bodies to try out. They look like fun. There is just too much negativity going on here.

I'm trying to figure out if this excerpt above is genuine or sarcastic???
It was all a joke Robert...hence the multiple ;) ...trying to make a little light out of this neg-thread. It was a long day for me yesterday. I like to think that all of us gather here to share in the joy of making music. Occasional venting is bound to happen, but I find it tedious after a while...it seems to happen everywhere.

I understand that internet purchases can easily lead to disappointments. I’ve had a couple. Buying something that is as tactile as a musical instrument without trying it first is always a risk.
I am thankful that the new management at the big G is making some effort to change for the better. The local(to me) shop that was a Gibson dealer for many years, then suddenly wasn’t anymore(during the end of Henry’s years), now is again. I can now go and play a few from time to time, and if I find one that I like...I can buy it from someone I trust a bit. I’ve gone a few times since they started carrying them again. I’ve played a few, but haven’t bonded with anything enough to pull the trigger....close on two, but not good enough. That is the way I prefer to shop for an instrument, but it is not always possible to find something specific...

Myself I don't see any hate here, I see a discussion that comes from facts and feelings, I believe this is a healthy discussion, its getting all views about opinion that everyone has, if its kept in perspective there should be no hard feelings or ill thoughts towards one another. We should respect one another even if we agree to disagree. This is part of Life, if one can not adapt to discussion, then what is there. I have seen the dangers from those who would say that , that person was saying that was hatred that person was saying, that was in fact a difference of opinion. Hate is a very strong word. As an individual I have beliefs some of those beliefs might differ from someone else's, that doesn't mean I have hate for that individual whos beliefs are different than mine. We must be careful not to take away someone's freedom of speech . We might not like what someone says, but we should have respect for that, if its done in a respectful manner. Sometimes we let things that are said in generalization become personal, this is where I believe we make the mistake. I don't believe anyone on here is bashing, its a discussion about a Company who is having quality control issues, in this case it happens to be Gibson, there will be other company's come up in the future some amp company, other guitar, car, boat etc etc. These discussions can be helpful to you the Consumer, after all isn't it your hard worked dollars that are paying for these products.

Yes, this is exactly what you did.

I went back and changed "hate" to "negativity". I was being too general.

Now, if we are going to continue to bash Gibson, let's get some statistics. I would like to see a percentage of defective guitars out of all guitars sold. Is it specific models? What percentage are finish issues? Damage? Warped necks? Bad frets? Is this really a plague level issue where we should all run away screaming, or is it that people on forums have extremely bad luck?

The thing is, of the three videos originally posted in this thread, only one is less than a year old(#2...by less than 3 weeks). So, to me, this seems to be a bit of a re-hash of the same old same old. I can read this stuff anywhere...again and again...about most any manufacturer...Fender, Gibson, Marshall, Mesa, PRS, Ford, Chevy, Dodge...whatever...(certainly not Godin, of course:D(y))
I would much rather hear more playing from you Norm...or clips from Ray...or sofa sessions from JohnnyGoo...or another heap of riffage from BFT(or any number of members here that have been kind enough to brighten this place up with their shared musical ventures...yes...you too Robert, Cado, and Mitch).
Show me something cool and useful...and fun...please.
I think I’m gonna go play a Peavey bass for a bit, and see if I still like it...maybe fire up the Mesa and pick a random guitar...

Sadly, you’re probably not gonna get a whole lot of accurate stats...the happy ones tend to be happy playing with their stuff, and not taking the time to sound off about it too much...there are exceptions(I’m looking at you Norm ;) )

Well said. If people are not able to discuss Gibson in a civil manner, god forbid anyone, anywhere, talks about politics or religion... Hate is the most misused word in the world the last five years. I’m afraid it will take on a new meaning and just become a strong word for «expressimg a different opinion».

Wow... this thread exploded since its beginning of only yesterday. I'm so tired of reading yet another round of Gibson bashing, but just now I forced myself to take a peek because I noticed this thread is into six pages already. gball made some comments on page one that I totally agree with, so that's where I stand.

It's going to take more time for JC to get Gibson's quality control up to par with a manufacturer like PRS as an example. In the final years of Henry's ruling, there was a lot of Gibson employee disenchantment. I dont know what the turnover rate was, but it appears that a lot of inexperienced hirees and the push to get the products out (Quantity over quality) played a big part into subpar QC. Having a large group of employees working together as a team and being proud to work for the employer is a very difficult and time consuming goal to achieve, especially after many bridges have been burnt.

I avoid all discussions of politics and religion....
