Who's into Orange amps

Speaking of Orange, so I bought the little 8" cabinet to go with my Micro Dark. Seems the speaker is going to take forever to break-in, still sounds a little tubby and soft after about 3 weeks of using it. Not sure I am liking the sound of it so far though - maybe it'll open up some when it's fully broken in but I am not counting on it. For $99 out the door they are skimping in more than one place with that little cab, and I am thinking an upgraded driver will probably be in order. Anyone have experience replacing the 8" in one of these?

I started my Orange tone quest with the Dark Terror and PPC108. The speaker is fully broken in and smooth sounding now, but not in the beginning. As far as lacking bass: it can lack bass due to it being a small 8” speaker. As a result of that fact, I raise the 6th. string side of my pickups on my Strats and Les Pauls.....which compensates for the lack of bass in the speaker. I generally prefer a bassier tone from all my guitars anyways....so I'm satisfied with my Orange Micro Dark and smaller cab. For more volume I use a Dark Terror and PPC112.

Welcome to the Forum Stratstrangler. good bunch of guys here. Orange make great amps. Have fun here on the Forum. Don't tell eSGEe you have the proper colour for an Orange amp.:D

Thanks! I knew there'd be a least one who calls me out for it. I like Orange but not orange! I guess I'd describe myself as conservative; and sometimes Conservative.

New member here! Yes, I'm an Orange fan and my setup for using my Strats as well as my Les Pauls is a Dark Terror with the PPC112 cab. I'm really satisfied with this setup with my Lester’s, but just getting familiar when using a Strat. So far, just a TC HOF reverb pedal in the mix, but may add a boost later, if needed. I just prefer Orange's “take” on gain; that's why I chose Orange. The V30 now broken in can achieve a variety of sounds with this amp. I have yet to figure what amp gain setting benefits my particular Strat....that needs to be sorted out, yet.

Welcome, Stratstrangler! I love this same combination so much, that I added a second PPC112.
Now, because you are new, I need to ask if I can paint your yoo-hoo gold. It's kinda my thing, yesh?

Appreciate the welcome welcomes, for sure. I have two Orange amp heads and two cabs. I also have my trusty Micro Cube GT which has been essential (so to speak) in honing my ears to dial in my Orange amps. By messing with the Cube, it was stimulated my desire to “micro-tweak” my Dark Terror and Micro Dark to my satisfaction.

I can relate to that completely. I replaced the 12AX7 valves in V1 and V2 with JJ 5751 valves, as well as the PI V4 with a balanced 5751.
It made just the right difference, as I wanted to tweak the DT for a slight reduction in gain.

No negative after effects at all, and the 5751s reduced the gain by about one notch on the dial. It sounds amazing
with or without the valve changes, but I wanted to tame the gain just a hair, and I can manage better cleans when needed.
I use a Zoom MS-50g for reverb/delay/chorus in the loop, as the Zoom can be set to line level.

Well done avoiding the yoohoo painting question SS --- you'll do just fine here. ALso if GM offers you a cookie (DONT TAKE IT) they have skin flakes in them ..........just a warning ---unless your "into that" sort of thing.....

LOL! (almost spit out my Dutch coffee on the computer!) P:lol: Now, SS, about your yoo-hoo...

OK I have been giving SERIOUS thought to the Crush 35RT, but I have 1 serious question. What can it do that my Mesa Rocket Reverb cant do? Other than the built in tuner.

First, @Stratstrangler , welcome to the forum! Several of us on the forum love Strats.

Second, if @Goldmember says anything about a yoo-hoo, hand him one of these and run away!

Not one single thing. The Mesa destroys it in every conceivable way, and sounds better at bedroom volume.

Unless you just simply have an Orange itch that needs scratching, it'd be a waste of money.

@gball is right, but there is one conceivable way that the Orange 35RT beats the Mesa, aside from the tuner:

Orange = shexshy
Mesa = not shexshy

Someone needs to send me a MESA to TRY! that sounds AMAZING--- is the MEsa SS or Tubular?

All tubes, I will say though the reverb does suck. That is not an issue though. I have the BOSS Fender Reverb pedal and it is GLORIOUS.

I am seriously considering getting the Mesa Rectoverb 25. I would really like to have separate eq for the clean and dirty channels. Other than that this lil amp does SCREAM.

That is sorta APPLES VS ORANGES though eh?

a 500 (used as I can find them) Mesa VS a 260.00 straight retail NEW ORange.......No offense gball but thats like thor vs pewee herman...

totally different tones I would guess. The ORANGE would make a good little bedroom SS amp for eas and abuse...(what I got mine for) get a good used deal on one and your never going to be "out" any $$ if you dont like the taste ---sell it on down the road.......

IF your wanting a decent 10" speaker 35 watt SS amp they aint bad at all...but it aint gonna SLAY your Mesa....thats for sure.

Right, but he already has the Mesa. If he didn't have either and was making a decision I would say the same thing though: The Mesa is 5x the amp for 2x the money.
