Who's into Orange amps

Speaking of Orange, so I bought the little 8" cabinet to go with my Micro Dark. Seems the speaker is going to take forever to break-in, still sounds a little tubby and soft after about 3 weeks of using it. Not sure I am liking the sound of it so far though - maybe it'll open up some when it's fully broken in but I am not counting on it. For $99 out the door they are skimping in more than one place with that little cab, and I am thinking an upgraded driver will probably be in order. Anyone have experience replacing the 8" in one of these?

Hi @gball ! I have not had the opportunity to hear this small cab, but I imagine that it should sound better than, say, a Fender Champion 600, with the little 6".
I've used both my Micro Dark and Dark Terror with the Orange PPC112 cab. I loved the combination so much that I bought a second to chain in parallel. Perhaps
a Weber would be a significant upgrade for the 8" speaker? Instead of Celestions, the house brand "Voice of the World" speaker is used in the 8".

I must say I was not a fan of the Orange 8" speakers either---- but once I opened up the 35RT with the 10" VOTW speaker (wtf ever VOICE OF THE WORLD is) --- I like it MUCH better :)

I think it's likely that the stock "VOTW" speaker is an el-cheapo OEM Celestion. As it's breaking in it seems like it's going to end up with the Celestion "honk" that their cheaper speakers all seem to have. It retains the honk no matter what amp I plug it into so I know its not just the Micro Dark. Also, that amp is EQ'd with such a huge mid-bump that it may work better with something that rolls a bit more of the low-end off, so a Weber could be a good choice. Possibly the little WGS.

I knew you would like it Bud.:)

YOur the 3rd person to call me Bud.....in the last 40 minutes..........and 5th today.........perhaps its an epidemic?

I'll be the first to say I'm not a fan...of the color or the amps. They may be great if you like break up and distortion, but not so great for the clean sound I thrive on...

any banana amps?
No, but we got grape!

New member here! Yes, I'm an Orange fan and my setup for using my Strats as well as my Les Pauls is a Dark Terror with the PPC112 cab. I'm really satisfied with this setup with my Lester’s, but just getting familiar when using a Strat. So far, just a TC HOF reverb pedal in the mix, but may add a boost later, if needed. I just prefer Orange's “take” on gain; that's why I chose Orange. The V30 now broken in can achieve a variety of sounds with this amp. I have yet to figure what amp gain setting benefits my particular Strat....that needs to be sorted out, yet.
