I agree that functionality comes first, but remember, I am putting this together and I have a certain amount of options.I can put up with most anything when it comes to looks if the guitar is a player. I like beautiful guitars but as long as the guitar is a player I don't spend much time worrying about how it looks.
I'd install the pickups I thought would give me the tone I was looking for. That said, a lot of tone we hear is in our heads so looks would definitely play a part. I like maple fretboard Telecasters. Blindfolded I doubt I could hear any difference yet I've never played a rosewood Telecaster I liked.I agree that functionality comes first, but remember, I am putting this together and I have a certain amount of options.
I have enough guitars that I have almost every conceivable tone covered. Several pickup combos???The little SG Special I snagged for like 40.00 --- it was a "beater" and a test mule (had several pickup combos in and out of it) but was a solid good little player
course ol Angus has the covered uncovered thing bass akwards here
And a BIG OL RIPPER BASS
That is cool. I can live with that look!I did ---- when I had a TONE JONES---- now I really try to play more than I tinker. That and I learned my ear is NOT that discerning...better men than I (much better--Like LEs Paul) went to the grave chasing tone.............does one ever really catch it-----
