OK GUYS, I know most of you know I do carpentry/remodeling work.
I also know many of you know I am and have to be cheaper than even Adrian is. Due to not only never ending low cash supplies, but major aversion to spending money.
So, returning to the posts a few pages back about LUMBER Prices being so high. ( AND THEY ARE RIDICULOUSLY high) I scour all manner of ways to get lumber cheaper than store prices and as close to free as possible. Anyway, I have a number of projects like sheds, covered porches, car shelters and other stuff I need wood for. So, today in about 1 1/2 hours I am about to part with some cash for a small pile of boards.
I know this is not $10,000 or $20,000 but to me it is a lot of cash. This facebook marketplace seller has 16--- 2x8x16 rafters he tore off a job that he initially wanted $600 for. Fat chance,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I informed him that at Lowe's the same boards cost just shy of $500 plus tax. I said for used ones, I could maybe go $225. Then he countered at $400 and I said nothing for a day or so.
Last evening he messaged to tell me if I could get em today or tomorrow he could do $250. Before all this price gouging Covid 19 inflated prices lumber has skyrocketted to, I would have likely tried to get these for $160 tops............ or $10 per board. Just FYI, I think Lowes current prices are like $29 ish per board.
In the end, I think I will be able to find a good use for them on a roof for either a new covered porch for our house, a nice shed roof for either our house or my car shed up at my other fixer upper house.
Wish me luck in finding some more bargain wood to add to this batch so I can get my buildings done cheap.
Just FYI,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I always aim to get costs in under 1/2 to 2/3 what a same size building would cost for material and or material and labor if it were a pre built and delivered building like a shed.
