So Anyway...

DonO, I am really struggling with the current costs of materials. It has truly forced me into almost exclusively CASH purchases of reclaimed or used or extra lumber people have off jobs etc. This often requires massive hunts to locate good buys. And angst whenever I see people expecting to sell at a few bux below retail and act insulted if you know the real prices are like 2/3 - 3/4 less.
It's ok chili. One of those 2 x 4s has a split in the end.

Yea, I’m gonna be bummed when I see how much our new deck is gonna cost. Lots of big sticks for the support structure. We’re in the process of getting a kitchen remodel quote. The wife wants quarter sawn white oak cabinets; I’m guessing that ain’t gonna be cheap either.

Exactly, Dono. and HEAVYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.

Do decks n such out there have special needs to account for earthquakes? I know when we built with Masonry in Tijuana, we needed to use additional earthquake procedures vs how we do here in the east.

Not sure of the codes, but I'm sure there are. Especially for my type of deck which is on 16 to 18 foot posts. I think the piers need to be 3 ft deep too. I want to have lots of cross bracing and 45s.

So anyway, since I'm an old guy and can't sleep...

I wound a screw side coil for a PAF style humbucker. I'll do the slug side tomorrow. Making a neck pup shooting for a little under 8k ohms. This half is 3.99k with plain enamel 42 gauge wire.

I just, finally, found sadness....truly.
I wish that I could have done a few things differently... not that I could have changed the outcome in the end.
It all happened so long ago, but I’ve only just come to know...

Goodbye Jess.......

BFT, what are those extenda tails doing on those rafters? Not much strength in that connection. I'd feel better seeing a couple foot longer extension up across the ends of your main rafters to give you longer overlaps to bolt together, Bro. It might work in SoCal, Tx or Deep south with no snow. But it is a pretty flat roof, snow load, melts and ice dam heaviest snow settling in that first foot of roof area in freeze thaws, etc to worry about up in Pa.

Have you wound any singles yet? :hide: Pickup winding was something I was thinking about last year after I got the CS 68 Strat with the handwound Abby Ybarra set. They were so drastically better than any single I had played before and wanted to try my hand at it. Which winder do you use?
I haven't done any singles yet, not that it would be an issue, but I don't have a good reference for testing/comparison. I made the winder out of an old 18v drill and a G scale train power pack with a bicycle computer for rpm. Got $5 into it and really works great. It's pictured in my cheap winder thread.

Nice call Chili, I didn’t even notice that before, and no it doesn’t work anywhere..
The rafters should make the full span, or the sistered tails need to go 2x the extension, with sds screws or thru bolts!!

Ended up doubling them up.. originally was going with 8' wide & had the lumber there already. Extended to 9' wide, so made the tails but doubled them. Much better width for a car. All but done now. Lumber pricing is a crock..2x4's now $9.74
