NGD - SG Junior

Just put her away after 12 hours of looking, playing, checking, looking, playing, listening to music, looking & playing some more.

Been trying this (well, the first couple of bars...), can get an easy version of some of the fun parts. Such a great start to a song to play with this new guitar.

The neck is dry - some F-ONE oil will be forthcoming.

I was lazy to put new strings on, so I oiled up the fretboard with the strings on then went for a shower. The oil was gone when I got back, so she'll have some more when I change the strings in a week or so (waana get some Ernie Ball 9-46).

She is definitely a beauty Mr Grumpy! The mahogany grain is fantastic looking.

Thank you. I wasn't sure at first if she was a B-stock, if the grain was supposed to look like this - but, I'm increasingly liking it; everywhere you look the grain, spots and marks show character.

WOW----simply ---WOW--- floored it is gorgeous beyond gorgeous--- a light fast simple basic rapier of a guitar---what more could you need?

As you have said, Sir, you don't need much more than one of these (although I'd quite like a 61' reissue with buckers now, and maybe a 3 buckerooed Custom with the fancy headstock.)

I think the cool headstock script is the icing on the cake.

I don't dislike it, certainly makes the guitar unique, but it doesn't blow me away.

Stellar guitar Sir.

Thank you; she's easy and loads of fun to play - kinda makes you want to go off the script a bit and have more fun.

Damnit it Grumpy! Just sold the LP JR and now YOU have me gassing for a SG JR.

LP juniors are great, but the SG junior is where it's at. If you have a chance to play one then you might be shocked how nicely they play.

Congrats!
I would love to add one of those to my collection!

Thank you. I believe the 2018 juniors are still available. :D

Thanks. Your collection is superb, I always love to see your 'family' pictures.

Soooo nice! Congrats, Grumpy. That’s a seriously nice looking guitar. I’m almost overcome with GAS and envy at the moment.

Thanks, Gahr, and thanks for harassing me to buy her; $ was not an issue, just hadn't ever spent this much on a guitar before because I'm a terrible player. It was the right decision although I phoned around Korea last week looking for the one below, but nobody had one.

I'm sure it's a great guitar, but this junior suits me well - I can become a better player with this guitar, I can feel it in me bones.

That's great you finally got the SG Junior...great looking guitar and so simplistic which I like a lot. Does your mama think you're crazeeeee now? I bet you can get some nice jazz tones by rolling down the tone knob to 0. The P-90 pick ups have gained a lot of popularity these days and are well sought after. In the past people were replacing them with mini-humbuckers which fit exactly in the P-90 route. I guess back then people didn't like the feedback and noise from a single-coil P-90 pick up. That perception now has changed for the better. How do you find setting the intonation on the guitar? It doesn't seem as precise like an ABR bridge but there must be a happy medium.

Congrats on the new junior Mr Grumpy, sure is a fine looking instrument. Since you first posted about it I've been looking online to find a dealer here in Oz that has one in stock,,, still haven't found one. Les Paul juniors, Les Paul classics, yes, but no SG juniors & you've really got me gassing for one. I'll keep searching. Cheers

Thanks, and the simplistic nature is great as it forces me to just play more. The tone control is very flexible, but so is the volume control. I haven't really noticed an issues with noise or intonation, but I've only been playing around through a little ss amp thusfar. Simple and good.

A real beauty

Thank you.

Congrats on the new junior Mr Grumpy, sure is a fine looking instrument.

Thanks, she's nice; the honey-cherry colour (which I like) seems to be Gibson's attempt to make the guitar look like an old 60s cherry that has faded while also looking new.?.

My mailing address is: Chili @ ...

Haha, I have no plans on parting with the little minx.

Grumps, your Junior is giving us all GAS.

Sorry about that, and I hope you find one in Aus - I'm sure you'll do so, but the price will likely be around the same as a 2017 standard which makes it an interesting buying choice; as you know from the other thread, the junior just worked for me in a way the standard didn't, but that's just me because the 2017 standard is a lovely guitar - right to the last minute I was thinking of going to other shops and checking out their 2017 standards, but all the talk on here of not walking away from a guitar that 'speaks to you' and to get on and buy it kinda forced my hand. The folks on here (and ETSG) certainly have excellent SG knowledge.

Regarding price, there has been some savaging of Gibson such as here: https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/gibson-sg-junior-2018.1881116/
, but to me, with a case included, the price is right or even on the very reasonable side compared to the custom shop/reissue style versions which are at least $1000 more, and I just can't see how they could have improved them.
