For the sake of RVA's site, I thought I'd do a new thread to drive the traffic.
(That's my excuse!)

A box arrived with some bits. It cost about $1500 delivered, so not cheap, but at least I got some free strings... Now, this junior is set up perrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrfectly, so I am a bit loath to change the standard 9-46 to the Gibson brightwire 10-46s they sent.

There was a brown box too; lifting the brown case it was so light I wondered if anything was inside - it's as light as carrying an SG faded in a gigbag.

The neck is dry - some F-ONE oil will be forthcoming.

I am not much into grain and finding perfect woods, etc, so I am happy with her as is. Here are some general pictures, it's a red cherry SG with some streaky grain, some spotty grain and even more of a honey cherry colour on the back of the neck in parts. Some spikey horns on this one - seem even nicer than other SGs I've had. Now, the 61' SG seems to be a special and/or renowned SG with many folks hankering over the 61' reissue SGs (I've never really known much about the specific details of different year SGs), and I think this junior is based on the 61' "Les Paul" junior.

I won't be changing anything. I like the white buttons (actually, they are my mostest favourite SG tuner shape/style), the trc is as a 61', the angled non-compensated bridge is as per a 61', the blackvolume/tone knobs which some folks seem to hate are fine for me too. The logo may take some getting used to...

She really is set up great and plays like butter - so easy; even I haven't hit many bum notes yet (just been playing scales to get a feel as the wife was asleep - as soon as she goes out the amp volume will be up and I will be powercording!).

She is as simple as it gets, maybe that is why she's so easy to play. The fit and finish is great. These 61' Les Paul juniors go for $5000 (originals, I mean...), so I am very pleased with the price vs quality here - many thanks to those who encouraged me on my staggering purchase journey because it would have been a big mistake to have missed out on this guitar. If you get a chance then try one out for yourself.

The neck is soooooo thin at first, but chunks up quite a bit as you go up the fretboard - I've never felt a neck like it. This just feels like all you need in a guiar, simple but effective.

The action feels low, but there's zero buzz and the slightest touch gets you the note you want; along with the spicey dogear, I supect that's why this guitar has such a great range of attack?

The wife has just cooked me a lovely Thai green curry chicken for lunch (and she's looking pretty sexy), so life is feeling goooooood.

You may well be right. I haven't tried other juniors, say the 2011, but against the SG standard that I expected to buy this one felt nicer in my hands, sounded better to my ears, and just had something about it that is quality - maybe just the cut of the jib is right on this one. Smells great too.

Thank you, and she is indeed basic - she feels quite feline with these spots and streaky patterns.

You flash gits who play around with the dark black things that I believe are called controls may need pointers, but I'm busy trying to put my fingers on the right place on the strings...
