There's just something about gold Strat pickguards, isn't there? Sold my only gold-pg Strat back in the 70s. One of these days I'm going to have another.I really like that. It reminds me of David Gilmour's #0001 Strat. I've always wanted one of those Mary Kaye type Strats.

IME real metal guards definitely do affect the tone though. Kind of cliche but the only word that comes to mind for that sound is, well, metallic.
Nowadays they sell plastic pickguards that have the anodized look and still sound normal - I've been thinking for a long time about putting one of those on my white Strat. I bet even without gold hardware it'd look great.
Most importantly, it wouldn't mess with the tone. The Fralin Vintage Hots sound fantastic in this one.

I think a plastic guard with proper copper foil on the back would actually be better shielding than aluminum, which is what the anodized ones are. And, like I said, I think aluminum affects the tone adversely. Of course, that opinion's based on my experience decades ago with a single Strat - I don't claim to have compared any others - maybe it was just an anomaly.Those gold anodized pickguards are supposed to shield Strats much better than the plastic ones.
A friend of mine has those Fralins in his Strat. He loves them. I'm sure they are every bit as good as the humbuckers in my SG.

More and more, I am finding my Stratocaster is becoming my main guitar.
Really hard to say if it’s punishable, but it could mean you have nothing else that’s grabbing your attention !!!I think a superstrat & amp are on their way. Been playing the JV a bunch lately, but i think need some more juice & a radius change fretboard;
No amps or guitars in over 1/4 year came home. Is than an offense punishable to some degree..?
