Help! I Need To Get Fuzzy….

Fulltone 69.Fuzzy and built well.
I may need some time to save up for one, but it definitely has a bit of a different flavor in comparison to the others I’ve gathered to date. The Fuzz War has become my “go to” so far. The Dunlop Gypsy Fuzz and my old Octavia build are pretty interchangeable, but the Gypsy is more compact and a bit darker. Looking forward to the Hail Satan Deluxe to fill the “Muff Variant” slot.

But listening to this now…

…has me tempted.
Thanks @JohnnyGoo

I have one of the very first grey 69 pedals. You could borrow it after I get back from Germany after Memorial Day. I think it's quite different than their current offering.

It's the grey one, in the lower right.

I'm temped to pull the trigger on this one

That is pretty tasty looking…solid octave tones!

Well @SG John , I’m learning why the guys from Murcielago both have the “Gypsy Fuzz” on their boards (and both have radically different settings)…This thing is growing on me in a big way. Glad I took the plunge on this one. Although, I could have done the job with my homebrew Octavia, this is smaller(physically), and slightly thicker sounding…both pluses for my board…I’m having some fun riffing with it tonight. The other thing I have noticed about the Gypsy Fuzz…it handles chord passages better than my homebrew. Weird, but very cool. Thanks again sir.

So…I don’t do this very often, but I’m gonna do it now….

I‘m feelin’ the need for something new (to me) in the family of fuzz tonez. There’s no aversion here to “rolling my own” either.
(See THIS EXCELLENT THREAD to understand the meaning there…their fuzz kits are HERE )

Anyway, I’ve become enamored with down tuning for some sludgy stoner stuff again lately, and I find myself wondering if I would enjoy a different fuzz variant, apart from the Octavia, and the different muffs I've built over the years. I’m feeling open to suggestions…that Game Of Tonez challenge had me looking at the Way Huge Swollen Pickle variants(I mean, they have an actual “Dirty Donny” model :rolf:  ), and finding myself curious about what else I could be missing in this quandary…

So I ask you wonderful people….Do you have any suggestions for thick & gooey fuzz pedals? To build(kits), or buy, it doesn’t matter…I don’t fear the iron! But tell me why too….please.
I kinda like this one. Lots of knobs to twist.

I’ve added a bit more to the available power supply situation this evening…

…Nothing too huge...just a supplement for what was already there. It did eliminate the wall-wart for the Flashback X4 delay, and has room to run a couple more boxes...not that there’s much physical space remaining. There is enough power available to run my DryBell Vibe Machine 2 though. I wasn’t going to move it over to this board, but I’m having second thoughts now…

Oh yeah, and the little true bypass loop switch pedal is up and running as desired…nice, tiny, and simple.

The reason why their settings are radically different could be the rest of their rigs. When I texted you the photos of the boards, I'm pretty sure I told you who's board was who's. Ian uses a mid nineties JTM45 reissue similar to my '89 along with either a Les Paul Custom or Standard with humbuckers. Matt uses a Marshall 1987 model 50 watt head and either an SG Special or Les Paul Standard with P-90s. Live, their both playing with full stacks. Ian's amp is significantly louder than Matt's. Matt says he can't get his any louder, it's always max'd. Neil will counter with an Ampeg SVT and Acoustic rig with a Rickenbacker or Thunderbird (sometimes a J-Bass).

Cool clips @Thatbastarddon !
I just got caught up on this thread.

Never got the hang of using fuzz.
Last week I put my homebrew Si Fuzz Face back on the board and have dialed it in much better to use along with guitar vol., along with a Vibe type pedal sometimes. Digging it.

I've been playing the 2 Squier strat rescue / builds I have been putting together recently, so.... Jimi, Robin Trower type stuff is on my mind.

Thank you @jtcnj !

Fuzz is a weird beast…sometimes it is horrific….but when it’s good… it’s good.

After recording that last clip, with the vibe, I’ve been pulling out the single coils to audition. The Strat is pretty darned good. Also the PRS SE, with the P90 neck and split/tappable bridge, and the T-60 in single coil mode… are all more intelligible. The last riff has mutated, and organized itself a bit more, so….future versions will be had.

Started down the fuzz pedal hole tonight. For some reason, the last time I used this Black Cat Super Fuzz, I wasn't really thrilled. Tonight, with the Matamp and ES-335, it sounded super! A crap ton of fun, and super thick to the tones I was going for. Can't wait to try some of the stuff Thatbastarddon found while going through different pickups and guitars. This is based on the Univox Super Fuzz, and does the early '70s sound really well.

So….I’m waiting for the word on my “Hail Satan Deluxe”, and I get an email from Abominable today offering $100 off of this…

Their “Unholy Grail” preorder…a delay/reverb/boost pedal. Well, I want a simple reverb for this board, and my delay needs are not super precise these days…plus…why wouldn’t I want a boost available downstream…

I don’t expect to see it until August though… ;)

Hooray! I’ve got tracking on the “Hail Satan Deluxe”!!! No ETA as of yet, but the excitement is palpable! Well…I’m kinda stoked anyway…. I’m hoping this fills the spot I’m looking to fill. I’m very happy with the others…the Fuzz War, and the Gypsy Fuzz are good components, so far. The Red Llama is working great as a boost(like a TS-9 in front…but a different flavor). We shall see…
