2016 Gibson 50's Tribute Les Paul Gold Top - First Report:

Saying goodbye to the Gold Top today. Local Gibson warranty tech traced the buzz to a short in one coil of the bridge humbucker and what he described as "bleedover" along two traces on the PCB. Parts would take "several weeks" to obtain, so I decided to avoid a repeat of the time and effort I put into my SG and send it over the Rainbow bridge...View attachment 5176

You should have said goodbye before you left the store in the first place(IMHO). Mentioning how bad quality control is, constantly, does not negate your behavior as a consumer. Seems to me, a bit like shopping for produce blindfolded, and with your nose plugged...and wondering why you get a rotten apple every time.
Yes, it may sound a bit harsh, but you stated that you didn't/couldn't allow the time to play an amplified note out of this turd before you shelled out whatever, special, amount of cash for it.
So several threads, and weeks, later....boom!..."Gibson put out another turd", and you're just not gonna take it. But you're sure as sh*t gonna let the world know over and over that QC sucks on their part. Well played sir.
I've shopped for, and purchased three new Gibsons in the last few years...even gambled on one online, insisting that I be the one to break the factory seal on the box, or no deal. Not a problem with any of the three.
Did I set them up to my liking? Yes.
Did I try others before purchase? Hell yes.
Did I decline to purchase a dog that I tried? Yep...one or two, for this or that...mostly neck profile variance.
BUT...did I buy a dog without plugging it in?...ever?...and then complain about the way it sounds when plugged in?...nope. After all, who's fault is that?

I'm sorry, but...I can't abide the process. The definition of insanity is, after all, repeating the same action, and expecting a different outcome.
Try before you buy. It works...with apples, and guitars.

Ha!

Good for you...I am happy that you didn't go through what I did. I've now bought 3 substandard Gibson's with significant issues. There will not be a 4th.

Whether it is played extensively or not, before purchase, doesn't change the outcome. It only shortens the duration of the ordeal.

I earn a living playing guitar. I expect a lot. Sorry...

It's not about you being sorry.
It's about you taking control of your actions and reactions.
You've demonstrated a propensity for foisting responsibility of your decisions upon another entity. You are the only one that is responsible for your decisions. Please stop buying guitars that you do not try. Please stop buying guitars that you do not like. Please stop complaining at every opportunity about how much these untried guitars have let you down. Please.

Let us disagree and abide in peace. I invite you to block me. It would be a favor to us both...

Do you speak as though only you are responsible for every joyful, musical, moment in my(and the collective of humanity's) life...and it has been the result of your benevolence?
I've earned a few bucks here and there too.
...Mumbles incessantly under breath about avian equines...

I speak only of my own experience. Peace and prosperity unto you I wish...

Yeah, I would agree to that, but I've read enough of your content to feel justified in posting my opinion as freely(if not as widely) as you have expressed yours. Observations of your open opinions have brought me to the conclusion that you are pretty much set on a quest to blame anyone but yourself for your own myopic decisions. For some reason, you seem to feel the need to write on about the wrongs that have been done to you, by you. In multiple threads, you have complained about things that you could have avoided...but ... it's someone in QCs fault.
You sir, are responsible for a good share of content here. A lot of it contains the same redundant message..."if I just plugged it in BEFORE I gave them my money"

Not all of us play/buy guitars we have the luxury of playing for hours prior to purchase Don.
I to, and others I know personally, have purchased multiple guitars -- off the rack-- online etc. These have mostly been fine functional instruments. However when a brand consistently is ....among multiple buyers in multiple regions ---consistently having issues why attack the messengers?
I've bought crap guitars. I've bought good guitars.
In ALL my blind guitar purchases 4 have been unusable....2 because the neck radius i couldn't play.....2 because they where crap......1 of those two crap guitars was a Gibson SG one was a Rickenbacker copy off eBay for 100.00 those where the only two. I bitched about the Ricki---ask Goo--I bitched loudly about how shitty it was-- And I can tell you in 5 years I have owned and flipped guitars now firmly in the triple digits with the purchase --blind purchase-- of this:
telecaster.jpg

Which cost a WHOPPING 129.00 NEW from Musicians Friend to my door.......out of the box it SIMPLY WORKS.....no issues. the action is a tad high...not unplayable the pickups work the thing is fully functional. I will tweak to my liking and rock the fook on. And ISNT THAT WHAT THE HELL SHOULD BE EXPECTED when buying a new product????? REGARDLESS of product or name brand

you are buying something that SHOULD FUNCTION PROPERLY ---not need 150.00 worth of additional set up---work--- time---- DO you order a microwave from amazon and expect to have to pay a TECHNICIAN to set it up or replace the circuit board??????

DO you order a pizza from Dominos and EXPECT To have to COOK the intercourse thing when it gets there?????

129.00 low end "poop" beginner Squier -----works -----PERIOD. VOLUMES this should speak to GIBSON---period.

Stories on this and other forums (Go to Harmon Central and read the stories---they are NOT freindly to Gibson I can tel you) of NEW Gibsons costing thousands that need set up and MORE to work-- new.....regardless of purchase location, on the planet--
Members here and elsewhere EXPECTING a new guitar to NEED a luthiers touch to work right.........COME ON thats crap and in your hearts ya'll know it.

IF the purchase of a "dud" has never happened to you ---then your damn lucky and rock on--- but it has happened to me---it has happened to OTHERS and it will happen again.......it happens......its o.k. you can admit it.....Henry G isnt going to come spank you or take your toys.

48.00 NEW to my door sight unseen on ebay..........worked great ---sounded great.......flipped it for 100.00........ ;)
48.jpg

I can do this ---literally ALL DAY................................but I wont.

the reality is what it is weather you wish to believe it or not.

Thousands of guitars a day get delivered unplayed----that WORK---and obviously many DONT. (and the online retailers offer 30-45 day return policices because of this) In my (I consider it large)volume of experience the majority (98% to be exact) work ..............when 1 of the 2 that didnt is THE PREMIER HIGH END GUITAR MANUFACTURER IN THE U.S. yep I am gonna bitch about it.

OH and to be fare I did have to return a Squier Jazzmaster because the fret metal was PEALING/flaking ----but the retailer (M.F.) sent me a replacement JAGUAR for the same $$$ because they no longer had the closeout Jazzmasters.......now THAT is customer service----THAT was a positive outcome--- I am and still continue to be a happy customer----- IS Gibson offering you anything Robert? Any "perks" for your trouble ???? A free t-shirt??? ANYTHING????? When my Panama Cabinet was a week late (I was told due to customs issues) I got free picks....a free T-shirt, and a coupon voucher.......Gibson????? RONDO, the much abused RONDO--when I contacted them due to an issue with a guitar ---no argument-- an apology and a discount to my paypal was issued THAT DAY---- GIBSON, well WHEN I contacted them for my non working SG they made me drive ---45 minutes to the "Certified" repair tech......who opend the back cover saw the P.C. board and handed it back to me saying he couldnt work on it or fix it---- WTF......took weeks to get a new pick up (the problem was the stupid plastic clip) ---and the customer service was crap---how DARE I QUESTION the great and powerful "G"....the "Certified" tech was a disgruntled ex employee --man the stories HE TOLD--

Still never got the free T-shirt Gibson never promised....or even an apology for my time and fuel and effort........replaced the pickup myself.....when they finally got it to me......and traded the SG for a much better made---much more valuable...functioning out of the box... VOX VIRAGE......so, in the end I was happy I guess.....

interesting ..........

Sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees :) I've experienced the same thing. I bought a used SG. It was very nice. I changed the pickups and spent a lot of time time setting it up and getting it right. For some reason I liked my other SG better and it rarely got played. After months of sitting unused I picked it up and was amazed at the the tone and playability. Sometimes you just need to step back and not play a guitar for a while then when you do play it you look at it in a new light.

I have also found they ALL PLAY BETTER the minute the new buyer shows up to pick it up :(

Funny, and I am being serious here, if a guitar plays so well that it does not need any work, I get disappointed. My wife always asks me why I play the "cheap" guitars instead of the expensive ones. Answer: I am searching for something to fix!!!

Well you cant have my new 129.00 Telecaster-----it WORKS..... I would have happily sent you the SG---- the Ricki was BEYOND repair --- was built wrong --- no possible way to get the neck and all to work right......glue in angle was all wrong..... not worth steaming and rebuilding ----

I have seen you do a fare bit of work on the high dollar gitters RVA --- dont say ALL your work is on the dime store guitars. ;)
