Announcing... RiffMasters!

Ok RVM drops a hot one, a mournful take on an anthem familiar to us all. He could have just as easily done his own nations' anthem too, might have been less "stirring."

I ask you to re-upload your mournful musical piece without the spoken word bits before we set to vote. It's lamentation is plenty strong (and very possibly "triggery" enough) without the spoken word parts.
OK, an updated version is uploaded inside my original post - for everyone's enjoyment. :)

I put some laundry on a few hours ago ...fired up the DAW... opened up what i left off on last night.

Something whack happened. Somehow a new time signature was added in the middle of the song ... a whole bunch clips slowed down to like 8bpm... oh my gosh! Panic!!! Took me half an hour to figure it all back out .. had to reset each clip manually to regular tempo out. What a total mess. I think I am back to where I started. Need to redo some awful bass playing tonight.

I have no idea what I did

OK ok, here it is.
Caveat - the boss was sleeping upstairs as I did it so I hadda be quiet with the "singing" so there is much to be desired there. But hen again, it's cowboy singing so... the rap? Well, again just fun rhymes no need to sing but I do hate rap as a "music" type.
Mistakes and all, I got other stuff to do today so not that much went into it.
If I could write Epic songs like @LiveeviL2000 I would leave it for the band and record it!!
It's alllll tongue in cheek...

Excellent and you got what it takes bro, I especially loved the way put an ending to it..

POLL VOTE TIME!

RiffMasters @Sapient and @Randy Van Malmsteen were faced off against each other in the Round 3 Guitar Duel.
Sapient had hardly completed ten paces before turning and firing off real quick, a blistery traditional solo delta blues styled piece
on acoustic. RVM took his sweet time, delivering a sombre take on a familiar anthemic melody in return.

As both were late game joiners, being far down on the bottom end of the points board. These extra points will serve to
help lift them up into the middle of the fray, where the dogfight is about to go tooth and nail!

Here are the Duel Submissions in the "Slide It In" Duel

Crossed Delta Blues

Got two turn tables some Jack and homegrown
Come close to me and I'll rack your bones

Got two turn tables some Jack and homegrown

You’ve been practicing this style for a long time, and it shows! ;) (y)
Well I got a few minutes to play so you got my typical improv crap.

Well slapmyback with some slap-back! That was some smokin’ brass work!

Nice! Sounded like you were a kid in detention;)…of course I’m kidding…Nice!
OK, enjoy: we're_really_sliding-less-triggering-version.mp3
  • I ended up using a tip I read in a post here: initially I'd raised the action at the nut a screwdriver shaft, but it moved around too much and didn't curve over the nut/neck radius. I ended up using a plastic handle of a tiny fine art paint brush which had some flex and also wasn't too thick.
  • Used my Line 6 Variax using 2 different tones, one was resonator, the other... not sure.
  • For a slide, I used a 18mm chrome socket, since the tone wasn't quite right on a 17mm socket...:pound-hand:
  • Was curious what harmonized sliding might sound like. Since it's not typical to hear 2 slide guitars at the same time.
Excellent! I’m probably glad I was working when the original was posted…I hate having to put on the mod had for that…stuff.

@Randy Van Malmsteen the rules of politics/ religion as generally verboten topical matter for open discussion / argumentation on The Tone Rooms, (and most places line this) which you may or may not be aware of.
The forum rules are easy to find and I suggest you take time to review. That said, it's my understanding there is a "bit" of leeway for "musical subject matter" protest songs, etc... but overtly using parts of speech by a sitting (or not sitting) political leader as part of a musical piece (No matter your opinion on what is said) pushes a ways too far over that line.

I ask you to re-upload your mournful musical piece without the spoken word bits before we set to vote. It's lamentation is plenty strong (and very possibly "triggery" enough) without the spoken word parts.

And let us all continue the game being mindful and respectful and thinking twice about chattering about sociopolitical topics no matter how cleverly the opinion is claimed to be hedged. This only serves to foster member division and butt-hurtedness. There are plenty other places to go online if that happens to be your heart's delight.

I quoted this to say “thank you”. That was really well put together.

edit: mod hat engaged- I’d rather not have to clean up the non music stuff. @TVvoodoo put it pretty nicely in the above quoted post. Let’s not stir this up unnecessarily please. Trust me, I offend people by existing…this is no place for politics, race, or religion. /mod hat

I’m sorry if I missed anything, pretty sure I listened to all of the stuff…you’ve all been busy!

Thanks a lot, Don. Much appreciated, pal. All of it. (y)

3 hours of futzing around in reaper today. THREE! Didn't even record a note. Spent the time meticulously learning a couple new skills after watching some youtubes last night.

Time stretching in particular and a little bit on automation. The time stretch feature particularly helpful to correct some real bad rhythm guitar, which some rather sloppy and lazy guitar player laid into my Dirty Dirt project.

I'm also getting pretty adept at replacing bad notes in a bass line, but I put all those mistakes in intentionally to force myself to learn new skillz... yeah right!

Tried to figure out some other things too but couldn't wrap my head around it all.

A couple new things per session is all I seem to have patience and e ougg RAM for. I think I also now have a better idea what mixing and mastering actually are, main goals anyway. Now I have "room treatment" and "proper monitoring" envy. LOL!

My project just needs vox now... the guide track is pure yuck! I have a voice for it in my head I'll never be able to do. This is where the AI singers are going to come in super handy in the future.

Say I want "Billy Gibbons" but turn up the Texas accent a bit more, and add a little grit" and voila! There it is!

Nice work James ,, that slide is slick and heavy,,
I bought the largest one they had at GC and it only fits the pinky,, I have to work out something with it, but I can’t play anything with it on my finger to save my life.
Thanks Mitch. We need more cowbell. Just ask Bruce Dickenson. Lmao.
I had trouble. It's awkward.I don't like using the pinky. I made a false nut out of wood to raise the strings. I'll get a pic.

@Mitch Pearrow SJMP and @ibmorjamn what little slide I’ve tried to do, like you guys…. My pinky just doesn’t cut it. No control with it. Unlike Mitch, I have little baby hands so finding one to fit my ring finger isn’t an issue. The thing I need to do is pick a guitar and raise the action since right now it’s too easy to press too hard and buzz the frets. So either a “false nut” or actually jack the saddles up a few turns.
