Announcing... RiffMasters!

You put your slide on what? :ROFLMAO:
There must be a lymrick in there somewhere. :celebrate2:
There once was a man from progenis, he played slide guitar with his….
I think you get the idea. :jammer:
There once was a weenie named Jethro
Who couldn't figure out where the slide would go.
So he tried with his wick
He must be real sick
Needed a shim to make it fit just so.

Tossing in a crappy slide entry…

This was the first time I‘ve tried to record my Cajon. It was the first track recorded in the project, just to keep a basic beat going. Actually, it’s two tracks, one take, mic’d with two microphones. I had to alter(wreck/bend) an old boundary mic plate to fit in the sound hole of the Cajon. I don’t mind the alteration, as I plan on using it for this purpose more often and by default. The other mic was an Audix D6 pointed into the sound hole of the Cajon. Guitars were a pseudo stereo rig…two amps…homebrew 18watt, and Vintage Club 20. Mic’s for the guitar were Sennheiser 609, and MXL DX-2. Slide was a simple lap steel bar. Guitar was…

Quick and dirty effort.

edit: oh yeah….Bass was T-40, recorded direct into a UA 6176.

Wow, I’m feeling the Pink Floyd vibe big time ! :dood: Nice work Don.

Gentleman, our "Slide It In" guitar duel is over @Sapient's simple upbeat acoustic delta slide piece winning over @Randy Van Malmsteen s mournfully-layered dirge by a convincing margin.

Join me in congratulating both these fellows for bringing us two very creative approaches which stretched our ears in different directions. RiffMasters is meant to be a creative platform, to challenge us as both musicians and as listeners. Any time you press the red record button, any time we render and punch upload, we all run the risk of falling flat, and sometimes that's just OK!

There are still several weeks remaining to show us how YOU slide for a single point before the end of the round, as well as your "Dirty Dirt" redneck anthem if you have not submitted already.

Some food for thought. I think this is important.

@Thatbastarddon drops a wild version of Pink Floyd's Time (Breathe Reprise) which is super chill! I definitely could hear the lava lamp mojo in that soundscape!
Nice of you to give the backup singers the day off!

ONE hard-earned point for Don!

Great "space sculpturing" in that.... (I'm learning about all kind of stuffs watching all these videos!) Sure glad I had my headphones on for the first time I played that piece through.

Killer work!

Slide is not something I practice often, maybe a couple times a year - can't even call that practice, it's just dickin'
Never tried to record it before. Didn't retune, just muted what I didn't want to hear as best I could,
My copper pipe fitting slide just barely hits six strings anyway. But, it might be large enough inside for many of
you fellas looking for a larger size. I glued a small piece of yoga mat to the inside of mine, grips my finger nice.
I'm sure slide people get into all kinds of tone arguments metal vs glass, diameter etc.
I recall seeing a fella do a passable job at it once at a jam with a bic lighter. At least I thought it was half ok for
what it was. Probably super cringe for a real slide player

I felt I did ok without having to put a screwdriver under anything, but probably would have been better that way,

I wasn't committed enough LOL! I just went with a lighter touch, I felt the lighter touch worked better for me for
what I needed rather than getting aggressive - that just seemed to create a lot of unrecognizable noise
@TVvoodoo You didn't like my nursery rhyme hip hop cowbell slide thingy ?

I like the video.

@ibmorjamn I am sorry glossed over it! Glad I still had the headphones on tonight... that was super interesting... the many cool guitar tone choices... all those elements orchestrated ... I hope we we more of that from you! That beat slaps tho too! Did you build that? I'm guessing this is for the slide single point... has to be! Of course! absolutely!
Yes , single point. However I did begin that for the main it was 50 sec. So I added the cowbell/slide.
The beat is a loop from my DAW (Mixcraft 9)
Ironically the guy that did the 3 F's video is the same guy that does the mixcraft tutorials. He's pretty damn sharp on mixing.

Regardless how you feel. Sounded fine to my ears…. And I knew two notes in what song you were doing so you were certainly doing something right.

Very smooth, nice groove. like the guitars and slide was there and not overpowering. Very well done Don!!

That is so very well done. Even though you threw it together the years of effort and practice show.
