What The Hell Is Wrong With People?

This is a touchy area. I'm on record here, and anywhere else anyone might hear me, as being 100% opposed to guns for any reason and in any form other than for the Military and Police. I believe strongly that the Second Amendment has been intentionally twisted and perversely misinterpreted so that gun manufacturers can line their pockets and those of the cowards in Congress that protect them, and at this point I can only wish for the repeal of it because it can never be fixed. And I believe just as strongly (and there is plenty of evidence to back this up) that it is easy access to guns in the US that forms the basis of the problem. It's great to talk about mental health, and we should, but when someone has a mental break coupled with easy access to pointless firearms we end up where we are now, with no easy end in sight,
I respect your personal opinion. However, if you take away guns it'll be knives. Take away knives, it'll be fists, poison, whatever. Even in a secure prison people kill people with whatever they can get their hands on. People are the issue. Not guns. There was a reason men sacrificed their lives for our rights. The US was set up to be governed by the people. We are free to decide for our selves and vote accordingly. If ever there comes a time when the government becomes so corrupt that the citizens are in harm's way, I would rather have armed citizens who are ready to put things back in order. I have nothing but respect for our military and police. There are corrupt people in every walk of life.

As a species I believe we are too stupid too have high powered semi auto firearms.
But what do I know, I was born in the USA and brought up in Canada

Oh Dmatt,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I won't throw gas on any fires, but at one point a certain rich and politically connected type actually got legislation passed to where it basically said we were too stupid to decide whether to buy and consume large capacity soft drinks or not.

In 2012, Bloomberg proposed a ban that would have prevented food-service establishments from selling sugary beverages larger than 16 ounces ..

Jun 26, 2014 — New York City's Large Soda Ban Is Officially Dead ... New York's highest court declined on Thursday to reinstate former Mayor Michael Bloomberg's ...

If Bloombutt, George Soros, Musk, Richard Branson, Zuckerburg, Gates, John Dorsey, etc had it their way, all the riches and thus control would be theirs to be wielded by them and their bought and paid for pawns. We serfs would be expected to all be content at obtaining equal shares of what is left, and to nurse off the government teet if somehow unfortunate enough to fall behind the equal crowd.

I won't add anything more about what the innocent citizens are expected to do to protect themselves once millions of non citizens, gang bangers, cartel operatives, sex traffickers, and drug runners overtake the unprotected communities. But, through the demonizing of ICE, Law Enforcement, and the law abiding citizens by the new regimes, early release of convicts from prisons etc, the up tick in violent crime which seems an apparent shock to some, might be an indicator of hmm "maybe it is not the tool one uses for ill, but the ILL who choose to use whatever tool or existing weakness to inflict the crime against the targeted victims"

:iagree:

I don't understand how they can even get to the mental health history. What about HIPAA laws? I understand how they can get to the criminal background, but your medical history?. In Indiana they ask questions when you apply for your license, but you are not required to prove anything.
In Texas, mental health is just a question on the handgun form.

even though i disagree with you 200%, i respect your right to your opinion.
i own lots of firearms. my firearms are not weapons.....they are tools.
i am the weapon.
i will never allow anyone to take them....to do that, they will need to kill me first.
none of my firearms have ever jumped up and shot anyone.

We are most certainly divided on the 2nd amendment issue...but politely so.

I guess to me firearms makes it easier to indiscriminately kill someone at a distance. A knife fight is close up. Not saying the firearms themselves are to blame but some extra background checks in some areas wouldn't hurt. If the vegas shooter had had problems getting like 20 rifles into a hotel room, he may have had to change his idea. For example.

This is something I often think back on.

I graduated a Central California high school in 1982. Every pickup in the parking lot had a 30.30 lever action rifle and a 12 gauge pump shotgun in the back window rifle rack. This can be proven from the old yearbook photos.

We also had a school marksmanship team and we would carry our rifles into the class in zippered cases.

What changed???

Society changed.

Having said that, I believe we now have a division in our nation, the likes of which we have never seen before. The divide between liberals and conservatives is so wide that I do not believe it can ever be restored.

Over 10 years ago, I wrote a thesis on how the United States will eventually need to geographically and politically divide into two separate countries to be able to maintain peace...and of my reasoning, the LEAST was the 2nd ammendment.

The proliferation of blanket censorship, public officials openly calling for riots and bloodshed in order to enact/enforce a specific political ideology and the general hatred for anyone with a different set of values, has never been as prolific as it is right now.

I'm now reading articles authored by democrats that want to abolish the police departments nationwide. They rationalize that crime can be stopped by making sure everyone receives equal pay, drives a car of the same value, owns a home of the same value and generly lives in harmonious equity.

The most bizarre thing is that these ideals are cannons of communism/socialism, but they are now being openly discussed and receiving an alarming amount of public support.

I belive this sway in the political undercurrent is one reson why Texas will vote on an independence referendum in November of 2021 and many states are enacting protections against hostile takeover by the federal government.

I fear we are only seeing the beginning....
