What The Hell Is Wrong With People?

A background check isn't going to help anything. If a person wants to kill others, they will find a way. If there's a background check required they will just go another route to obtain one. It's the people, not the guns.
I do agree though....mankind is getting worse & worse.
Why make it easier though? It would be harder to fknd a black market gun underground if background check deemd someone unfit. With no check they can just go to town easily anywhere. Buy unlimited ammo etc.
Not to get political. Just seems ridiculous to me.

Black market guns here are effortless to find...my former colleagues say they are currently seeing more and more turning up from Mexico, Central and South America

But it must be easier for a young guy say with a history of mental problems to go to Wally World and arm up then to research how to get black market firearms if he has no backgroumd in illegal weapons or gangs. How does it hurt to refuse to sell him a weapon in a store? Thats what I mean.

Most things are easier to obtain on the black market in the US. No waiting period, it's not registered and sometimes it's even cheaper. I would rather good guys had the same, if not better than the bad guys. The core issue still lies with people, not guns. Figure out WHY people are going nuts and shooting into a crowd. Fix that. Is it a lack of morals? Is it fatherless/motherless families. Child abuse? Even giving up an inch of our rights leads ground to taking more later. Fix the problem. Guns don't get up and shoot people. They are tools. Semi-automatic or not. I have a strong military family. We were raised around guns. We were all taught gun safety and how to defend ourselves, if need be. Everyone in my family, including my cute little mom are packing. Not one of us has shot anyone, except my dad & only because he was a soldier in wartime. How many stories were brushed to the side in which an armed citizen saved the lives of others because they carry?

Indeed.

Another thing, i am concerned with, not making things political, they are taking away freedom of speech over here in Canada, you are not able to give an opinion on some things without someone calling it racist. I have seen this in America as well, We need to be concerned about this, thats all i am saying.

I agree whole-heartedly! If they get one inch, they will take a mile later!

The universal background checks and ten day waiting period have actually been in place for over 25 years here in California. The system has denied firearms to a number of individuals with either a history or criminal activity and/or those with mental health issues, according to data compiled by the FBI and disseminated to all law enforcement agencies each year.

In many cases, a mentally disturbed person will not have any history of diagnosis or treatment. In those cases, there isn't any data to trigger a red flag in the background process.

I don't understand how they can even get to the mental health history. What about HIPAA laws? I understand how they can get to the criminal background, but your medical history?. In Indiana they ask questions when you apply for your license, but you are not required to prove anything.

This is a touchy area. I'm on record here, and anywhere else anyone might hear me, as being 100% opposed to guns for any reason and in any form other than for the Military and Police. I believe strongly that the Second Amendment has been intentionally twisted and perversely misinterpreted so that gun manufacturers can line their pockets and those of the cowards in Congress that protect them, and at this point I can only wish for the repeal of it because it can never be fixed. And I believe just as strongly (and there is plenty of evidence to back this up) that it is easy access to guns in the US that forms the basis of the problem. It's great to talk about mental health, and we should, but when someone has a mental break coupled with easy access to pointless firearms we end up where we are now, with no easy end in sight,
