What The Hell Is Wrong With People?

YES. My neighbor's 2 doors down, robbed my house 2-3x. Once the 35+ year old son of the property owner did. He got a 10 year sentence with 3.5 years suspended. So a 6.5 year sentence which began in 2010-2011 if I remember right. BUT while he was in, around 2012 his then 15 year old son did the exact same thing except his " like father like son" drug problem led him to also steal prescriptions of mine and also my dog's meds. Due to minor status, he got a slap on the wrist for a felony crime and got to continue to reside at grandma's 2 doors down.

Flash forward a year or so to like 2014-2015, the dad gets early release from prison, and lucky me, takes up residence at mom's house 2 doors away. Both perps owed restitution and $25-$50 payments would trickle in by the state government issued checks until one day when I went home to load up some of my equipment to work on some gutters and roof issues at my fiancee's house. ALL of my long aluminum step ladders, and aluminum metal bending brake, and aluminum walk board were missing, but the thief courteously left me my Fiberglass extension ladder. Of course lead me to ask, hmmm, what did the restitution get paid back with, scrap $$$$ he got for my tools? I literally asked the dad's parole officer this.

Needless to say, my once comfortable and peaceful home was one I feared going home to for fear of not only what else would be stolen, and worse, what possible violent retribution might come from the convict, thief and or connected persons to these lifetime criminals. Since 2010, I can never return to my house without anxiety even miles away before arriving; I also can ever be there without being on the ready to react in case a crime against me may occur.

Sadly I am not the only victim or potential one from these same people. A couple years ago, I got a phone call from the neighbor on the other side of us. He happened to look out in his front yard where his wife's car was parked to see a guy that he thought might have been one of the ( perp neighbor's) eyeing up or even having opened his wife's car door until he went out and confronted the guy.
The guy left and walked down past my place and possibly to the crime house, and yet when the Sheriff was called, the car neighbor basically felt as if the Sheriff's did not treat the incident seriously enough considering the history of the other neighbor I warned him about.

Flash forward to maybe February 2021. My long time neighbor next to the car neighbor stopped by when I was out in my yard. To quote him.
" I just wanted to come say hi and to tell you, you won't have to worry about your buddy anymore, in case you hadn't heard." My mind went first to the guy who bitched to the government about my cars, and next to the criminals. I replied, Kenny? and Neighbor said yup, OD'd a day or so prior.

I guess his Parole officer and monitoring his freedom in the real world did a bang up job of preventing criminal behavior this time huh.
Nothing to fear,........ just Heroin addict burglars.

Oh and in case one says, hey why not just move? Imagine this,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I sort of did. 45 minutes away to my fiancee's house. YET Same scenario minus the robberies of us,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, YET. 55-60 year old brothers, living with a female signif other in the downstairs and upstairs units of their 75-80 some year old mother's house. Since I have been here, they have wrecked, re-wrecked, totaled, and totally gone through no fewer than 10 cars and trucks ( some theirs, some their poor mother's) and we even found a plastic bag next to our door step that I thought was just trash and turned out to be a bag of needles, a beer can bottom cut into a dish with what I can only assume was drug residue in it.

Pretty sure they go to Methadone clinics, and just about 2 weeks ago the yelling from 100+ feet across the road prompted me to look out our 2nd floor window to see the one son and 2 women going at each other with sticks or a cane, and throwing 8 inch rocks at one another from their garden. Soon after, the one woman I witnessed getting hit by a rock, picked one up and launched it at one of their cars while continuing on to swing a stick to hit both of their cars. I went out to our side door as I saw her head up our driveway. She was dripping blood down her face and neck from the head wound caused by the rock. She kept on going past me muttering something like she needed to find her purse or something. Thankfully 4-5 cop cars arrived soon after. Needless to say, she has an alcohol and drug problem, as do the others.

Yup, nothing to fear here........... Oh yeah, a return trip by the police a few days later to address a repeat of the nuts going at one another did not add any reassurance. All I heard was the cop saying. " if you do not obey the restraining order and have no interaction with the downstairs bunch, you will be arrested...."
That sucks!

A main concern I have is that several people on this forum live outside the US. I don't want any of you to fear violence in this country and refuse to travel here because of it. While there are several dangerous areas, in general the US is a relatively safe country to travel in. There are bad police, but there are a heck of a lot of great ones who go above and beyond their call of duty. It saddens me to see the riots and protests occurring. We are not all like that. It's a beautiful country and in general, Americans are friendly and welcoming to tourists. Like I told Ramo, you have friends here in the US. Look us up!

I've traveled, walked and drove in Central America....

One must always question the stripping of civil rights.
It's our duty to our fellow Americans that have fought for the freedoms that we find sacred.
On that note...

I am so glad this thread was not shut down for the reason being "Politics" or any other topics of Taboo talk.

It gives me a chance to start by presenting one of a number of great learned men and women. With their opinions and or empirical data to back up their description of status quo's and how we got there, they are priceless resources. They are older schooled ( formal and/or street schooled) people who either hit their mark to develop their analyses right off, or like Mr Sowell ( former Marxist) and others who set out on one or more paths, before arriving to where they are today. In this message I will stick to Mr. Thomas Sowell who is almost 91 or 92 years old. A true treasure and brilliant mind. Another is Walter Williams ( similar generation and age but recently and sadly passed)

To me, if anyone understands the ins and outs of Black vs White, rich vs poor, educated vs limited by anatomical, economic, or socio reasons, they are people like Thomas and Walter. With all the frictions in the USA, and now Canada, China, Cuba, Latin America, Russia, Middle East, North Korea, China etc., the entire world can seriously use more of the messages and minds of great educators like Thomas Sowell. Sadly at 90+ his days are soon to end. When that time comes, I will be very sad.

I am of a limited mind but throughout my life, I have been a deeply thinking type. Always looking to understand so many topics of interest.
I began my thinking while being distracted in elementary school, between my hungry stomach, troubled home life, and I guess boredom with some of the stuff the teachers tried to teach us. I was a slow reader, despite understanding many many words and being pretty good at spelling. As my basic math and reading skills hit a certain level by age 12, my world was filled with a plethora of positive and some negative outlets for my physical and mental pursuits.

From the time of about 10 on, I needed MONEY to buy things such as bike parts, skateboard stuff, ball sports things, gum and candy. I got a quick and almost self taught education in fixing things and also buying in bulk and selling by the piece. ( candy and gum sales) Also cut grass and delivered newspapers and babysat kids. SO, next to wanting to learn Auto Mechanics, I wanted to learn how to be an entrepreneur.

More on that if I decide to add to it. Now, my next education came as our family dissolved, we moved and I went to a new school in 7th grade. The teachers at that school, had questions I could not answer but classmates could. The only thing I could see that happened was the elem schools in that area of the county were taught more details in stuff such as sentence structure and grammar that I had not seen in my elementary school. I had to play catch up or get left behind......

The bottom line is, I think I began my real education by realizing my weaknesses and realizing it was going to be fully up to me to learn in life.

By working pretty hard at learning enough to catch up, spending more time reading and to be responsible for furthering my knowledge on ANY topic or hobby or anything else throughout history, the arts, math, science and so much more was the only way to get smarter.

I often asked myself, why could we not be born knowing all we needed to know in life instead of having to waste time learning stuff we WOULD need. Now I see the reasons, I also see another factor and reason for how even with effort, my inability to learn some things, was the lack of ability to access the source of INFORMATION. NOW I have the Internet. And where resources were limited to me, I now have COUNTLESS places to find the answers to almost any topic I could ever desire to learn about.

Having been a Business and Economics major in college, I stay fascinated by all that make up the economics of society. Dr Sowell, would have been a huge influence back in school. Glad i found him in the last few years.

Up here in iglooville BC nobody has/wants or seems to need firearms.
There are hunters of course, and the few target shooters of course, but close to zero people who want/expect to own firearms of any kind as "protection".
Just doesn't exist. Nobody except cops carry in public. That said there are a few gang bangers.
Not trying to be pompous etc, but really kind of glad that it's like this here.

dmatt, IF ONLY it could be as such Everywhere.

I am a firm believer in the Golden Rule and if you would not want to be treated poorly, robbed, beaten, argued with ( even family members) don't treat others in bad ways as well.

Yep no real reason at all for a private citizen to own a military style assault rifle here. IMO, no where.

I grew up differently. I was a cop and served in the military.

Interesting thing is how violence can happen in the most unexpected places.

I enjoy our home in Arizona where you stand in line at the bank and everyone - tellers and clients alike - are openly armed.

Nothing ever happens.
