no no this is better----MAPLE SUCKS for guitars --- you didnt know that? @Amp Mad Scientist said so --- so its gotta be true ;)

The thing of it is, I have a Les Paul with a proper Maple Cap. SG's have inherently been solid Mahogany. There is a tonal difference to some people.

I also agree with some that a gussied up Flame Maple top on an SG just doesn't always look the part. I'm no lover of the Traditional Red either.

So for me it has to be this one...ONE Piece Mahogany Original 61' Specs. The First "New" Les Paul that became the SG after Les pulled his endorsement in 1963.

Maple is not a very pleasing tone wood to my ears on an acoustic, but as you all know I don't feel it has much to do with the sound of an electric. It's
just pretty and people like that...

The Mad Man is giving me a lot of great Amp advice though!

That's a real beauty. You pulling the trigger then?

I'm quickly getting to the point where I think that If I find the perfect SG it just might be my ultimate guitar. I've loved Les Pauls most of my life but they are heavy and lack the high fret access of the SG. I am planning to stay away from the shop for a few days and then go back mid-week and play that guitar again to see if it really is as good as it seemed the first time. The shop is in my neighborhood, so I can just walk down there at lunch time any day I want.

The only ting that I have noticed is that Gibson electrics with maple necks have more high end bite than the ones with mahogany. They seem to be a little more stable also - I almost never have to tweak the truss rod on the maple-necked ones but have to do it twice a year on the hog ones.

Pulled it Saturday. Delivery tomorrow. And GC has an extended return policy of 180 days due to Covid. No questions, guaranteed if the guitar is mint as received.

I need the extra time due to my surgery. I'll only have 5 full days with it until I go under the knife. Then 6 weeks with my right arm in a sling...
