What gear?

I always used my sights. I thought it was so cool after having grown up with a re-curve. It was much easier to get a clean kill when hunting.

Nothing wrong with using sights, I just clung to my traditional bow roots too much. I used to go to a range with a buddy that I hunted with a few times. I set them up for the range shooting.

What should I look for in a used bow/arrows? I don’t need a fancy hunting thing, just a simple bow and maybe a dozen arrows. I’ll get a big target on a tripod. I can shoot in my driveway or backyard.

A single bow is good to start with. The compound bow is more powerful, but learn your fundamentals on a single bow. Might find a good used one if you put the word out in Aroowhead Village...

I’m not looking to hunt with it, just plinking every now and then. I’ll save my $ for GAS

With something like that, a couple of bales of hay, and a burlap bag with a spray painted bullseye would probably do the job as a target.

About a year...maybe more...depending on how much you pummel it with arrows, and if you stick to using field tips. If you use broad heads/razor tips, you will chop it up faster.
It will last longer if you cover it for rain/snow.
