What gear?

This bag of Piher resisters for my eventual JTM45 build arrived last week.

And then I bought some more lumber to get the last wall section in my cellar finished. After that, I can turn on the two new electrical circuits and start my new work benches.

After the benches are done, I’ll have a spot to finish the guitars that are half built, and to start on my JTM build. Just need to make sure cash comes in to buy the rest of the parts. Cash will be tight for a while.

You can never have too much storage space!

I have no one under me, but I am the Director of IT in title. I've spent the past 8 years or so in upper management, but I am finding it difficult to keep upward mobility in the ranks after being laid off four years ago after12 years with my previous employer. My underling was cheaper and due to a massive confluence of events I was suddenly expendable even though I designed built and oversaw every aspect of technology from inception to sunset for them. They've never had any employee pu in as many hours as I did.

I've essentially come to the conclusion that I've aged out of the industry and I'm not willing to start over at the bottom, so I just set my cruise control on this job and riding it out till the wheels come off. Semi-early pseudo-retirement is what I call it. Been trying to find a new career but I don't have a ton of hope for the future, I've been burned one too many times now. I've been royally screwed by every employer ever.

Hoping for something really good and unexpected for you...

I did software too. Wrote my first FORTRAN program in 1973 in high school. Made good money writing in C and assembly.

Wow...i should have got a real education, Man.

And i am saying that seriously...

I grew up working with Dad, so i knew i already had a job, plus i was making money with a guitar starting at age 15, so i kinda chuckled when guys talked about college.

When i enrollef in the police acdemy, in August of 1992, it was the first time i had been in any kind of educational setting since 1983 - the year i left high school. Although i graduated in the top 5 (out of 54 cadets) i still didn't plan for a life outside law enforcement.

I did two years in law school and left in 2009 to become my agency's 25th police chief. Big mistake. Too many politics.

I have always thought of myself as the dumbest, smart guy i know.

So, for me, I'm just a fool with a GED that was somehow blessed with being able to find a way through things without anything more than being able to read and write.

Now, the reality of those choices are catching up with me.

At 54, i dont think highly of going back to school and learning something new. I'm not social and certainly not politically correct, so.i see myself as a kind of dinosaur that would surely be passed over in the job field and i really don't have patience for that anymore.

I applied for Santa Fe a while back, just because i like trains and wanted to get out of music as a career. The guy just looked at me so strange and asked, "So, you are a musician full time and belong to a musician's union???"

I told him, yes, of course, but that my background in racing and fabrication gives me a strong mechanical aptitude. Needless to say, i didnt get hired.

My wife and i are blessed and happy, but i really wish i could do something else. Yrouble is, we've got used to the $$$$ and i can't help support us on a pay reduction.

Hope all is well for you guys...

Same here Robert. Hoping has never panned out before. I'm a staunch realist, just can't help it.

I would ideally like a career in music, but Jacksonville isn't the place for that at all. That was mainly the impetus for applying to the Gibson engineering job, but they passed me over like all the others. Totally expected.

I know if i could just get to a music city like Nashville or Austin I would eventually be able to break into the scene, but we have been wiped out several times over, through no fault of our own, in the past 15 years. No luck to be had for us.

I do appreciate your concern. Here's to hoping we both find something that allows us to equally contribute and benefit. :victoire:

Amen, Bro....
