Well boys and girls...

Kinda did, didn't it?
Or, drum parts lol

I guess that the bars with the nuts and bolts and stuff actually get cleaned and then re used on other patients who suffer from similar injuries.

Hell, why not?
Just before I went under, they were telling me that there was a good chance that they may end up using peices of bone......from a cadaver....in order to make sure that I got all the parts I needed. Luckily they didn't have to.

How weird would that be???
"Oh yeah - I've got some dead person's body parts inside of me"
Brand new like Mr. Crowley after cadaver bones were used.

McBlink when finally gets to go home...

Well shoot, things must have been going just a little too smoothly last night and today, we were suddenly moved out of my room in order to make space for a pair of ladies that had something particularly infectious.
So I lost all my nurses (whom I had just recently told that I was super impressed with and that they were doing excellent jobs) and was stuck in some dark corner of some other floor where nobody was familiar with my case, my drug regimen, my plan for pain management (which for the first time since I've been here was working outstandingly!) and everything changed. Once again, I am in extreme pain because I am not getting the right things at the right times. They straight up are refusing to give me toradol. It's a huge part of a concoction that really works and it's not even a narcotic! I can have all the oxy and all the dilaudid I want, but no more toradol? Essentially it's a souped up ibuprofen, it keeps the swelling down, and when the leg begins to swell, the pain returns with a vengeance. Also, some of the nurses on this floor are flat out bitchy! And that is just an observation, I didn't talk to them personally at all. But now I know not to.
I just really can't wait to go home.

Bless you, Man....

Well today is the day!
Perhaps my gripes were a tad premature. While it was a painful night, I did manage to get more sleep than I had before, and this morning when the orthopedic team came in to check me out they removed the brace. When that brace came off, it felt nice! They then told me that I could start moving it around if I felt up to it.

So the first thing I did was ask for a walker, and then I ordered breakfast.

1 cheese and bacon omelet, 2 cartons of whole milk, and 2 cups of regular black coffee. Hell yeah!

After I eat, I want more than anything, to put a plastic bag around my leg, and take a dump and/or shower.

I'm in a good mood compared to last night and I'm ready to get this going.

Yeah well MAYBE at this point I still am in a good mood lol

Every single time I get a new nurse, (every shift change) it's like I have to fight to get them to understand that I need some kind of pain meds every couple hours or so. FFS, I have a busted up leg and knee, just went through 2 surgeries, and I do NOT want to fall behind on keeping it under control, because if I do fall behind, then suddenly I am not as willing and/or able to try to get to moving around and into the toilet and all of that good stuff anymore. If I spend all night or day hurting like a mofo, then the PT people come in, I tell them it's too much for me to handle right now and I'll send them away, nobody benefits, least of all myself.

They never brought me a walker. Said that wasn't really their area and that I should ask someone else facepalm.gif

I dislike this floor they put me on. It's just so completely different than the one I had been on the whole time before. And I feel that the level of care I'm receiving here just isn't up to the same standard as the floor I just came from.

Yet on the other hand, I need to be careful about what I say to them about it, because they could totally just make me miserable here should they decide that I am being a PITA for them.

Am I complaining too much?? Are these things too much to ask??

Also, got some pretty crazy blistering on the inside of my lip, apparently somewhat common after having undergone anesthesia/surgery, usually from the tube or mask.

Pretty weird sensation, supposed to resolve itself within a few days.

Pretty weird!!

Okay...did not see this coming....
Met with the PT people today, they showed me how to do my exercises and my stretches...I took the walker and headed to the bathroom, sat on the toilet for a while, did not produce a BM, but that's okay by me, I just wanted to know that I could get there should I need to use it. Then I wandered around the room for a bit, until I decided to take a seat in a chair next to the window simply for a change of scenery. I sat there by the window doing my stretching for about 2 hours....and the PT lady came back, saw me doing all this all by myself, and was so impressed, that our conversation turned towards my plan for going home. I don't have a wheelchair yet, but there IS a wheelchair from several years back from when my grandpa was using one. My dad said that he could quickly construct a ramp if necessary, I've been off the IV narcotics for several hours now (ever since that brace came off anyway) ....

Whatever.

Long story short boys and girls,

I impressed everyone here enough with my determination and strength that I'm being discharged and going home.

I AM GOING HOME!!!

Hell yeah! ..that's great, man!

Awesome to be going home!
As for pain meds one would think that it should all be notated so anyone there coild follow it.
Apparently not.
Will feel so great to be home to recover. One cannot sleep well in a hospital.
Yes I did find that very odd.
Turns out that after they removed the brace this morning, most of my pain issues just went away entirely. There's the soreness and stuff that's to be expected, but a lot of the pain I was dealing with was actually caused by wearing that brace, which was not even necessary, but they put it on anyway because so many people were worried about accidentally moving their limbs in their sleep or whatever that it's just standard procedure. The surgeon herself told us that....and I guess I believe it too, now, after having that experience.

Since I have to wait a few minutes for my wife and mom to go check out of their hotel and stop by the hospital pharmacy, I am going to take advantage and eat one more hospital cheeseburger while I wait.

I've seemed to develop a taste for them lol

That’s F@$n great brother
Home is the best place on earth for the final mend..

Thanks for sharing all of this bro..

Mitch
I just thought it would be a great way to pass the misery and all the hours alone here...as well as document what I was going through. I wish the surgeons would have let me keep the pins and hardware from my first operation as a souvenir though lol

Turns out that actually getting out of here is a challenge too. Everyone is so busy that I'm still sitting here waiting on them to come and wheel me out to the parking lot where my ride has been waiting.
