Wampler Velvet Fuzz

Great pedal, so far I like it best after the true bypass Dunlop CAE MC404 wah. Both "big" and "tight" sound great. Depending on a bunch of factors how you use either will determine which is best for that particular application.
How long have you had that bad boy? I know I am asking a silly question of you of all people, but do you have any other fuzz pedals?

Back on topic...

I have been thinking about building another pedalboard and the Velvet Fuzz
is very high on the list to be part of the dirt section of that predalboard.

Once you get bit by the pedal bug, it gets out of hand fast...

After all this time, it is still hard to find one for less than $130 delivered. Hey Cat, did you get V1 or V2 (which vary only by in/out jack placement I think)?

Excuse me, Mr Cat, but you are a Marshall amp guy thus I'd like to ask a question please: do you have or have you heard a DSL5C? Any good? Does it play well with an SG loaded with 490 / AY?

People love their DSL amps, I can tell you that. But here is a question. Are you getting this due to the low wattage and presumption of relative quiet? A tube amp can be loud even at 1 watt. The real reason to get these types of amps is low headroom so early breakup. I made this same assumption once and came to this conclusion.

You use pedals for breakup. I would save my money and stick with that cool lunchbox you have.

^ yeah, the Yamaha is really good, but I do miss my 1 watt Randall amp - it sounded great at home, but was not load enough for band practice (couldn't be heard over 20w ss amps) - this amp does 5w for rehearsal and 1 w for home. OK, I don't neeeeed it, but the price is decent.

Ok, but do not forget about the Blackstar HT5R and HT5. Even though it does not do the 1w thing, it performs well at low volumes and is a killer amp. It is what I would get in the range

Blackstar HT-5R 5 Watt Guitar Amp | Blackstar Amplification

^ I know many folks like the Blackstars, and I like the sound of the very small Fly amps, but I don't much like their tube amps. I know folks never think of Randall amps, but my 1w Randall was soooo much better than the 1w Blackstar to my ears.

Sorry I'm late back to the party boys! I'll try to answer all your questions in the order received:

First of all Frank is right! I have way too many pedals. I don't even have a pedal board. If and when I put a musical group together I'm sure I'll put one together.
Now to answer questions for all you fine ladies and gents. ( It is a shame I don't believe we have any women in our group but perhaps I'm mistaken )

RVA I have around nine fuzz pedals I'll try to to list from memory: Boss FZ-2 Hyper fuzz, Big Muff Pi V9, Peppermint fuzz, Havalina fuzz, Moen Fuzz Moo, MXR germanium mini fuzz, MXR Jimi Hendrix mini fuzz, DOD Flashback Fuzz, Velvet fuzz. I've had the Velvet since last Wednesday or so, same with the DOD Flashback. I've tried it out with humbuckers and single coils and also with SCN noiseless pups. I like it best putting the pedal after a wah with true bypass. I find the VF to have a unique voice of its own.

Mr Grumpy sir, yes I have a DSL5C. I do enjoy my Marshalls. I have four of them JTM1H, C5H, DSL15C and DSL5C. I still need to run the VF through any of them. I got them put away right now. Even though I love Marshalls, I've been exposed to Fenders since I was a younger teen/man. I really am totally nuts over Champs and VCs. In the future I will get a DR.

JohnnyGoo, brother I'll post some pics of the fuzz collection after I do a little catch up.

RVA, I'm not sure which version I have on the VF.

Mr. Grumpy, no I have not played an SG with 490s through the VF through a Marshall yet. I don't have an SG with 490 pups but, I do have a 1998 LP Special SL with the 490/498 pups.

By the way Frank, yeah the name "Timmy" does come off like it just jumped over from the "San Francisco" rainbow side of the fence. ( No offense intended to anyone here please and I'm sorry ahead of time to those who might be sensitive ) but it is truly one of the best ods I have ever played. What might make a good thread would be: "Best Overdrives we have tried out so far."

I hope I answered all your questions for right now guys. I really enjoy all the comments on here very much so far.

From the manual:

Thanks for trying the "TIM/Timmy" pedals! First off I should explain the name. It's a Monty Python joke from the movie "Monty Python and the Holy Grail". Tim the Enchanter is a character in the movie. I called the pedal "Tim" as a joke at first, and the name sort of stuck... The Timmy pedal is a smaller boxed version of just the main section of the TIM

The Tumnus is probably one of the finer OD pedals out right now as well. I wish I had one but, I'm kind of cool on pedals right now. I did go on the "list" with Analogman for "The King of Tone" OD/Boost/Time Machine? I figure in about three years when I'm getting much closer to retirement I'll get an email to pay/order the darn thing.

Also I have never heard a "Tim" OD in the flesh. I believe the ones you can get used, they want a small fortune for just like the Klon.

In the future I want to build some pedal kits. When I do a few of these and get brave enough, I would love to build a kit tweed Champ. Sorry I'm going all over the place with gear on this thread. It is easy to spiral out of control with all the cool stuff out that they have.

You do have some great amps, and those 1w Marshall limited editions are not cheap!

I'm currently torn between getting a new amp, nice tuber, to play the SG through or get a Gibson LP...
