Ah, i understand. His leg hair receives the sound by vibration and that's transmitted to the brain ...That's why he's wearing shorts.

John's amp mod has no mid-range sounds thin.
This is a gut shot of one of Larry's amps in the video.

Robert, you could even try a 5751 in V3, just to see the effect. Many thanks to Goldmember for his tube suggestions. It worked out really good last night. the first time the DSL40C has sounded that clear, loud and defined...

What does V3 affect in the DSL40C's circuit?Robert, you could even try a 5751 in V3, just to see the effect.

I wrote "with the exception of a JJ 5751" because of the larger voltage permissible between heater and cathode. The JJ can withstand 180V, all the others 90V, which may be exceeded in a cathode follower.

Hi Robert,
I've never had a chance to experiment with a DSL40, but the 5751 is a military grade replacement for the ecc83s, with less gain.
I would expect it to smooth the gain structure, like butter on a frickin pancake.![]()

But but but but but but.... Have you tried the ECC823 with a 12AX7 IN V2???? I just gots-to-know! Good? Bad? Oh The Hummanity...You know, that's a very good description. Here's what I have noticed in your recommended ECC823/5751 V1/V2 swap.
The overall tone - even at ridiculous gain settings is smoother - and there is less white noise and less feedback tendency...
