Tube Amp Reliability

I have a set of Ken-Rad long, black plate T12AX7 tubes from the 1950's and one of my tube amp aficionado pals swears they will turn a DSL40C into something special...somehow, I doubt it.

There's really no way to know other than to try them. I will say though that I generally find NOS tubes to NOT make so much of a difference in modern higher gain designs that are voiced around new production tubes. This isn't to say they won't make a difference though. Try them and see. Cheers

Bea, I can't quite make out that guitar you are playing in your avatar. It looks sweet though. Are my eyes deceiving me or is it a bass?
On my avatar? That's a bass, a Gibson EB-11 aka Les Paul Junior DC bass, limited run from 2011. Meanwhile heavily modified with better pickups and a better bridge as well. A cool, versatile and really good sounding bass with a lot of punch.

Thanks Bea. I am glad you have such a sweet piece. I knew it looked like a LPJr DC, but was unaware they made em like a bass.

SO cool dear. Now I want one!!! I always liked the EB0's too.

Adrian, Why did I have to see Bea's pic? You and I know those basses are way too pricey for us. Having shared my one "expensive" bass with you and Hank, I can't help but know I could have easily bought 3-6 basses for that same money using the ferenghi method. The same bass Bea has is on Reverb for almost $1300.
Needless to say, I will just to have to live vicariously through her.

Damn this thing is sexy and can play Geezer tunes too.

Bea, that is good news all depending on the exchange rate of US$ vs the Euro.
Not sure about the values of the PT SG. I remember wanting one of those and at least one member in the ETSG forum actually bought one too.

Are you talking about the White one with the THE WHO hard case or the previous version?

This one apparently sold for about $1500 and another was being listed at about $3k
Gibson Pete Townshend Signature SG (original) 2001 Cherry

This 50th Anniv one is apparently about $1400
2012 Gibson 50th Anniversary Pete Townshend Signature SG Special

BTW: does someone know how the prices of the white Pete Townsend SGs are developing?
I'm pretty sure you're asking about your white PT SG. You probably remember that I have one, too. None are currently for sale on Reverb.com and eBay. But, looking at Reverb.com's price history for the last year and a half of transactions, the average price has moved up to around $1400. I bought mine at $1000 in May or June of 2015, which was the average in that year for this specific guitar.

None are currently for sale on Reverb.com and eBay.
And i do not intend to put it for sale, too. I'm just a bit curious.

Swap the mudbucker for a Dimarzzio "Model one" bucker -------
Or replace the weak TBPlus pseudo mudbucker by one of my modified Epiphone mudbuckers and the minihumbucker by some thunderbucker-like mini with 16kOhms. Which what i did. (not only to the Gibson, but also to my white "1960s EB-3" from Epiphone)

P.O. had done it--- actually when I bought it it DIDNT HAVE the mudbucker at all......just a HOLE----

this thing has "done hard time" on the road--- its beat and mangled--- but damn it sounds GOOOOD--- AND fretless ta boot--- smooth fast boom stick with way more tones than the "average" EB bass
