The talk of Rush and college made me think of this song.
When I was studying English in university we had a lecture on Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s poem «Kubla Kahn; or, a Vision in a Dream». We were supposed to prepare by studying the poem on our own before the lecture, but I had been out sick, so I came unprepared. I could still follow everything the lecturer went through, because I had been listening to Rush while I was sick.
I have never heard any Rush song all the way through, although I stipulate to Alex's guitar capabilities. I can't get past Lee's vocals...
You are missing out on a universe of inspiring musicianship. Even if you just made a playlist of their instrumentals, of which there are many, you'd be enlightening yourself greatly.
IMHO, for a modern rock musician to not study Rush's body of work is akin to a student of literature not reading the classics.
never knew they produced instrumentals!

Rush!!
I couldn't imagine growing up without Rush. I've seen them live more than any other band.
I find it easy to get lost and day dream when their music is on. There will never be another band like them. That's a fact.
Ohh, and it's very addictive to "Air bass" to Rush.
