Sad now. Missing D string....

Perhaps tomorrow...
I have said it before, but : Love the crescent moon inlays!!

Is this not the same issue you posted about a few years back on ETSG?
I think they keep breaking at the saddle?
did you try checking the saddle for burrs and maybe raising the stop bar a bit?

An unresolved significant issue on a keeper saddens me as well.

No issue...it broke between the pickups (believe it or not). The strings are getting old on this one...that’s all. It’s time for a spring cleaning, and maintenance session.
But it’s a sign that I have a few guitars that are due for this...

This is one of the reasons that I started a log to keep track of the strings on all 16 of my guitars: Guitar; Date of string install; Brand, type, and gauge; Vendor and price of strings.

Yeah, I try to keep track via pictures. When I do a complete maintenance session, I take a few shots. I’m kinda embarrassed, but not really I guess, that the last full maintenance session was 02/11/2018. Strings, fretboard clean and oiling, a wax job(Col Mustard style...first time for me, and it held up well), and a set up check. Here’s a pic from the end of that session.

I have a few guitars that I spread my playing time across, but this one, the black P90 SG Standard, the V, and the two Gladiators get most of my time. I added a PRS to the mix this year too, and I do play all of the others...but not nearly as much. This faded is often the first guitar I reach for when I’m looking to play something heavy. So, a shade over a year, and I broke a string...the only reason I’m sad about it is, I’m not seeing any standard sets of 10s in my stock. This past year I experimented with a couple of different string types, and didn’t restock my regular choice of strings.
I still have some 9.5 Boomers around, and they’ve held up well enough....

I cant keep track of what day it is without a chart--- strings--- er uhm -- Bass strings changed once after purchase -- good for life--
guitar strings when they "sound" a little off or break-- or feel rusty-- then its time

Spent most the afternoon on this
tseries5.jpg
swamp ashed amoeba shaped monstrosity-- -man--- I miss the 70's ...............
all original all works -- zero issues-- Meridian MS. -- and the GENESIS of the CNC machined-- mass produced guitar--- as well as the first real "modeling" circuitry as well.

Ol Hartley was getting KILLED by Gibson and Fender -- who told guitar shops
you carry PEAVEY amps we wont sell you guitars----
So Hartley made a guitar-- faster better (sounds like a Lester a tele and a strat) and cheaper .....

Good recordkeeping habit!
I cant follow through that thoroughly; I dont keep up with it.

I write the date and guitar make / model on the used string package and keep the small stack of them with my string supply.
Update with new, toss the old.
A sharpie works well if using plastic packaged strings like D'Addario XL.
This I can keep up with.

I started keeping a log of guitar purchases, amp bias, when I ran them last (try to power up tube amps at least once a month).
but didnt stay with it.
I just started back again and adding notes and pick up DCR readings, etc.

I write string change dates on a piece of paper & throw it in the guitars case compartment. I don't have to record brand or gauge, they're all EB 10~46 regular slinky's, except my 5 string open G tele which uses D'Addario EXL116 11~52. I keep much better records for tube amps, an "amp" notebook that list power tube bias in both mA & % max dissipation, screen current & a full voltage chart for each amp. Also a valve chart listing valve type in each position & date installed. Cheers

You guys definitely have me beat. I keep a case of strings in the house, and I just change them out when they start to feel dead. Closest I can reckon is I get about 5-6 hours of playing time on a set before they start to feel bad to me. I don't keep any kind of records or anything.

For tubes, I don't have to worry about bias or brand of tube since I switched to Mesas. I just change out the power tubes about once a year when the low end seems less tight.

its a scary place Don --- thar be MONSTERS!!!!!

I practice 2 hours each day sometimes a little more, do a gig a month, I find I need to change strings around the 3 month mark.
