So Anyway...

The head does not have any power amp. You’d need to lug around something. The powered head might be over kill, but it’s only 2 more pounds (and a few bucks more).
If you don't want to drag around a Power Amp you should go for the 600 watt model. It's either unpowered or the 600 watt. No other real choices.
You could get one of the new Seymour Duncan pedal board amps. I hear great things about those.

The Kemper is also great if you want to plug into FOH or a mixing console!

2 more pounds is doable. I let a guy play my modified, back up DSL40C. He fell in love with it and made me a ridicous offer...more than twice what i paid for it brand new.

There are a number of easily portable after market solutions. Here is a popular built in one.

For tonight's rehearsal/performance, i am using my 1999 Marshall MG50CRD 1x12, which weighs only 32 pounds...much less than my 60pound DSL40C with a huge speaker magnet.

The Kemper is more than just light and convenient. If you want a new amp, just download it. The result is not like a pedal on the same old amp. Rather, through an FRFR speaker it IS a new amp. Also, the tones you can get form the better producers (and many for free) are as good as I could have EVER hoped to dial in. You can infinitely tweak them after that, in so many ways it is dizzying. Want to go from Dumble to Fender Tweed to Plexi? Just turn the know and click the button, or setup a "performance" so they are ordered in the desired manner for your evening of songs. Like I said, a true game changer.

Well those are slick. Haven’t done ANY homework yet on the Kemper. Might just add something like that.

Read some good reviews on those, but I just dig using a big heavy Crown Power Amp. I never play out so
the weight is no issue. Damn thing weighs a ton though. It stays put just like the Twin Reverb will!
Looks like you can only buy the Camplifier direct from them in Germany. I couldn’t find anything else like theirs. Are there others that make a plug in for the Kemper like them?

Nothing else form fitting. They do appear on Reverb from time to time. I think many order from Germany and wait.

Many Kemper users, including me, use this compact and lightweight device. It does require an external transformer, but the unit itself can be fit on a pedal board

Thanks Ray. I’ll do some more homework on the Camplifier and maybe pull the trigger. My goal, after I finish the studio and the rest of the basement, along with some honey do‘s on a new place we bought, is to find some other local guys and get a band together and play local gigs. Not for money, but for the pure pleasure of playing. The Kemper would be my rig.

I need a lightweight amp head, capable of driving a single 12" speaker. Need to eliminate pedals if possible, except maybe a switching box???

The line out feature is great for recording. I really do need to downsize to keep from re-injuring myself continually.
Marshall 3203, after years of trial & error..if i was forced to go the new norm and downsize..this would be it with a 1/x12

the clean side is clean . clean..much cleaner than one would expect & the drive side from mild crunch & then 8.5 -10 on gain is up there with the best i ever played. Still 2 el34's but the manageability of this amp is fantastic. Live use..right at the level..it functions in the zone with a kick drum well But at home ..you can play it super low. It drives a 1x12 well. With Celestion Type V ..it is so well rounded. Put it n 4x12, its a beast. No pedal needed it has that much range on the gain knob. It has a fullness.....it reminds me of a manageable 50 watter but intended to be used in both a quiet or live situation. The bottom is there naturally with out forcing it to act big.

Funny...the 1999 MG50CRD really did work well last night. I ran my board through the FX loop, same as i do with my DSL40C.

The MG50 really sounds better overall than the DSL40C does in terms of adjustability. I think this is due to the "contour control" which allows a little more tone shaping, and i seemed to have more string to string clarity with the SS. It does lack the power output of the tube amp, but in a jam room or small venue, its gor plenty of power.

I'm not sure what i am going to actually do just yet. Right now i am just weighing options.

It's gonna be tough to beat my DSL40C.

So anywayz... For over the last two weeks I've been so busy prepping and painting and fixing and replacing stuff inside our house, that I have not touched any of my guitars or get a chance to play through my new killer V2 Caldera amp. I'm so tired at the end of the day, that I have no enthusiasm to pound out some glorious noises. Everything a frickin mess in our home and I'm starting to feel mean. Got another week of this stuff... :BH:. Stupid rant over...

My wife started a monstrous interior decorating binge. Of course, she is 5'-2", so guess who is standing on the top platform of a ladder to tape the ceiling transitions??? She cut into the walls and made recessed shelving.

It's gonna look great when it's done, but right now, it looks like a street market in Bolivia...

The frustration only intensifies the satisfaction you will have when you step back and ponder all the fine work you have completed and the new state of your home. The notes will reverberate off the walls more crisply and sustain in the air longer.

Hang in there brother - the payoff is coming!!
