Saw this elsewhere, Name the SG player.

I FLAT out LOVE how Alex gets that ES 335 to reach the heavens in sonic nirvana to my ears.

Freaking 2112 Temples of Syrinx circa 1976, I was forever changed when 2112 was to be my first Rush album and the needle touched down. My ears had never before and never since heard anything like Geddy, Neil and Alex.

All the times I saw Rush between '78 and '85, he mostly played the 345, 355, a Les Paul, and the white EDS-1275. I think it was after Moving Pictures or Permanent Waves that he started playing a Strat more.

I love this old photo of Trower with a Les Paul and a Hiwatt.

And then there's this photo of him in the mid-seventies with an SG. I know it his trio, because that's Bill Lordan playing drums.

Wow! Thats the first time I ever saw Robin Trower in the solo era without a Strat! Perfect guitar though outside of the Strat for what he does

I started with Phenomenon, then Force it , No heavy Petting, Ect when they were new ha ha ..
First heard of them in 1974
Cheers

I first heard of them when I skipped school one day in 1978 to go hunting through the bins at local used record stores, and heard this record when I walked into Zzounds Records on Boylston Street in Boston.

Been a fan ever since.

Like Hendrix would always use a Gibson for bluesy stuff, I wonder if Trower would use it for something like "Daydream."
Thats a great question! Probably dead on right with that. He was a big Hendrix fan and friend on him even, so he very well probably did take a cue from the same playbook

Nice post, John.

When I was in the 8th grade, NOW we are talkin prime Teenage boy hormone filled rock n roll magnet to steel scenario and the rest is history. 1978-79 and it was like a whirlwind of all the new experiences like Van Halen, Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent, Def Lep, Stones, Zep, AC DC, Maiden, Rush etc. I seem to remember 2 happenings in the halls of middle school. Both centered around concerts my buddies got to go to. Def Lep during the High n Dry time, and Rush right around 2112 time. After buying 2112 really by chance pick out of about 4-6 different Rush albums, I just say it was dumb luck. Shortly after I had an older neighbor who had a 3 disc set of RUSH, Caress and Fly by Night called Archives. Then I got Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres, and Perm Waves, Moving Pics and All the World's a Stage. Needless to say, I was hooked.

Same thing went for UFO. If I like a group, they pretty much permeate my being.

I was lucky enough to rip off my dad's cassettes of Caress of Steel and All The World's A Stage as a young kid. Heard Bastille Day and was mesmerized. He never got his tape back by the way lol

My first Rush album was an 8-track All the Worlds a stage.
Then I had to have the ones all the songs off of the live album were on Fly by Night Caress of Steel,
2112 like that . I seen them 3 different times

Another Gibson guy who became a Strat player and never looked back.

He is the reason i play ;)

By the way did Vinnie Moor play for UFO?
Yes sir! He is actually has been a full time member since 2003 but since singer Phil Moog retired, along with the deaths of Paul Chapman, Pete Way and Paul Raymond; the status of the band is unclear. Officially they haven't retired as a band but there's only two original members left and one has retired altogether.

OK Speaking of POINTY guitars,

To add to Mike's POINT on them and Metal. MY initialtion came Pre Metal such as Thrash type.
Courtesy of a cool Geeky like fella. Unless you count the likes of Angus, Iommi, Tipton, Townshend, Carlos Santana, Robby Krieger etc on Pointy SG's or Schenker and Randy Rhodes on their V's.
Here is one guy who had come pretty cool guitars.
