Plywood? Damn lolI gotta admit...
A Hondo SG with a book-matched flame maple topis something you don't see very often.
Like WTF? I would say: "extremely rare."
Must have been a production error.
Normally Hondos are made out of plywood.
Apparently this Hondo is not plywood.Plywood? Damn lol
My grandson has a plywood bullet squire.Plywood? Damn lol
Clearly thats a figured top. I was just amazed that plywood was an option. I guess though in essence, anything can be an electric guitar, regardless of the body core. Theres a guy on youtube called Burlsart who literally builds them out of salt, pencils and even jawbreakersThat's an upgrade. Not plywood.View attachment 51238
Hows it sound? Kinda intrigued honestly! My grandson has a plywood bullet squire.
We have put a left handed mightymite neck and a mightymite bridge pick up in it and it’s the guitar that got me playing again . It doesn’t sound to bad either.Hows it sound? Kinda intrigued honestly!

And it’s a hard tail !!
I think its an awesome looking guitar you scored! You know, I've owned guitars with plywood bodies and I like them for what they are - plywood, mahogany, maple, ash, etc - all have things about them I like. Now, with that said, a plywood body guitar should NOT have the same price range as other more expensive woods
The Hondo is just a cool old guitar to me - when I changed the pickups out I didn't pay attention to what the wood in the pickup cavity looked like. Now I'm curious and will have to go take a look.
The three pointy Hondo bodies that I picked up were all some oddball solid wood core, but had masonite tops & backs.
Here's a sectioned view from when I recontoured & refinished the green one that Cabana Boy now has possession of.
