Picked this up in a trade...

No sure, from what I have been able to find out based on the style of logo, etc is it's an earlier Hondo model. It actually plays awesome now. Needed a little TLC and massaging, but...

The previous owner said it was his player guitar...

You know, I've owned guitars with plywood bodies and I like them for what they are - plywood, mahogany, maple, ash, etc - all have things about them I like. Now, with that said, a plywood body guitar should NOT have the same price range as other more expensive woods ;)

The Hondo is just a cool old guitar to me - when I changed the pickups out I didn't pay attention to what the wood in the pickup cavity looked like. Now I'm curious and will have to go take a look.

edit:

Well, so much for that idea - the control cavity has the copper shielding in it. But, from looking at that the sides/edges of the guitar the body appears to be made of four pieces of wood. The cap, the back, and two pieces running length wise sandwiched between the cap and back. I'm not the wood pro you know, but none of it appears to be plywood and if it is plywood they certainly took some time to make in it not to appear as plywood. Of course, I wouldn't care if it was plywood myself, it'd just be my SG ply-tone guitar - lol...

It's just a cool old guitar, man - is what it is, what ever it is

I think its an awesome looking guitar you scored!

The three pointy Hondo bodies that I picked up were all some oddball solid wood core, but had masonite tops & backs.
Here's a sectioned view from when I recontoured & refinished the green one that Cabana Boy now has possession of.

All I know is the Green Slime II is cool - I literally can't keep from smiling and chuckling to myself when I think about the guitar or mention it type thing - even as I'm typing this I'm smiling and chuckling. The Green Slime II - ya, baby - just a cool guitar...
