PCB In Gibsons:

Hmmm....well, I never noticed a transient spike, but my playing is very disciplined, most likely from so much unplugged practice. I had an engineer comment once, as he was viewing the spectragraphic analysis of one of my tracks, that it looked like I was playing with a compressor.

I run volume and tone full-up all the time. It's very rare for me to turn the guitar down because it loses presence and gain.

I am sure 50's wiring is all well and good, but unless you are turning the tone down, the capacitors are not doing anything.

The variations in capacitance may create some different tones, but again, if you dime-out the pots, as I always do, then it makes no difference.

In the Hotel California video I posted, I think the tone is worth examining...

The guitar is dimed-out, the gain on the DSL40C is 1/2, Bass is 8, Mid is 1/2, Treble also 1/2, and Presence and Resonance is also 1/2 way up.

I never change these settings, so even if I am playing Hotel California or AC/DC, I simply change my attack which changes my tone.

I use the same amp settings for songs like "Smoke Rings In The Dark" and the tone sounds almost clean....

That's where your solder skills come in, splice in the proper pigtail.....

The high-performance versions of the 2016 Les Paul Studio and Standard guitars provide even more versatility, thanks to a small, user-adjustable set of switches located in the control cavity. These let you “rewire” your guitar to give it different sonic personalities, without voiding your warranty—or heating up a soldering iron.

There’s a small, blue, rectangular set of switches located in the control cavity called a 5-position DIP switch. There’s nothing special about the word DIP; it’s an acronym for the type of switch packaging. You turn the switches on and off by sliding the switch’s raised section with a small screwdriver blade, or similar blunt tool. In the picture, all the switches are in the “off” position.

REWIRE YOUR PICKUPS

The first two DIP switches work in conjunction with the volume controls. With the volume controls pushed down, the pickups behave like standard humbuckers. To split a humbucker for a bright, thin single-coil sound, set DIP switch 1 (neck) or DIP switch 2 (bridge) to “on,” and pull up on the associated pickup’s volume control. For a sound that’s more like a fatter P-90 (Gibson’s “tuned coil tap” sound), set the associated DIP switches to the “off” position.

BRIGHTEN YOUR TONE

With switch 3 off, turning down the neck pickup volume control doesn’t just lower the volume, but also creates a “darker” sound. Turning switch 3 on maintains a brighter sound as you turn down the volume. Switch 4 provides the same function for the bridge pickup.

IMPROVE YOUR SOUND WITH DIGITAL EFFECTS AND RECORDING SYSTEMS

When you pluck a string, there’s a huge volume spike (called a “transient”) when your pick first hits the string. Amps and tube-based circuits tend to absorb this noisy, “non-musical” sound; however, digital effects and computer interfaces do not. As a result, you need to turn a digital device’s input level to accommodate this spike, or just live with it and accept digital distortion.

Turning on switch 5 introduces Gibson’s unique transient suppression circuit that absorbs this transient, just like a tube. So you can feed higher levels into digital gear (which gives less overall noise), while avoiding the digital distortion caused by the initial pick spike. The transient suppression circuit doesn’t need batteries or alter the guitar’s tone, so you can just leave it on if you use any digital gear.

I think it's pretty safe to say that the overwhelming majority of us know what it is. Also, you did quote me, hence my question.....

I'd be interested.

Sorry....I guess I read only an excerpt from your post before replying.

WTF is that?
Those are Asian Ladybugs that were imported during the 1960s to 1990s, the U.S. Department of Agriculture attempted to establish the Asian lady beetle to control agricultural pests. Yeah ... great idea ! They since then migrated North and we get invaded in October. On a warm mid October day, the whole house may look like the picture above.

They bite and get in your ears, nose and mouth if you're not careful. They infiltrate the house structure and come out all winter long, when it gets warm enough inside. They poop everywhere and stink like poop when you manipulate them. That's why they have no predators.

My attic must be insulated with it.

SOme are good tippers though ---- most just bitch about "Thats not how we get it up home" ..........uhm..........

Perhaps we should keep this thread on track with the OP's Op? Ants and guns are cool, but what do they have to do with Gibson Printed Circuit Boards?

well ants can "F" up a circuit board .....and you can shoot one with a gun...... maybe throw it like a skeet????

- They can both ruin it, one slowly and one quickly.
- A circuit board may be capable of diverting a bullet
- The cavity for the circuit board should be lined with that slug tape you use for shielding so that we can see if it works on ants
- both caps and guns come in a "22" model
- - you can tune a piano, but you can't tune-a-fish

I didn't know that ants could mess up a circuit board, however I have heard that the roaches in N.Y. eat circuit boards.

SERIOUSLY?!?!?! another reason for me not to go to NYC

ants get in and "nest" in there --- they urniate in the back seat and .....oh wait no that was a different rant............or ant.....or aunt----
