Outtakes and Abandoned Projects:

I did some selective listening to these selections and have to say great work, production, tones.
For some reason I am always more drawn to hear original things rather than covers, because I believe it tells a better story about the artist.

I am grateful for the kind reviews. Believe me, I take every critique to heart. I have NEVER liked my original work. I just feel outclassed by so many of the great songs and artists out there. But, I have come to the crossroads where I now must complete the originals for my solo album.

Here's a sneak peek at one of my originals...

You are so very kind, my friend....Thank you.

1 down, 4 to go.

My approach is to mimic Joe B's first album "A New Day Yesterday," consisting of 13 songs, but only (5) originals.

By using my existing covers of "All Along The Watchtower," "Fantasy," "Perfect Strangers," "Ace Of Spades," and Rory Gallagher's "Road To Hell," I have 5 covers all dialed in and ready to roll.

I will add to that (5) originals (1 completed, 2 in current progress) for a 10 song debut.

Well, that's the official plan, anyways...

I am greatly anxious to be able to hear your work brother.
You just have to let go of any negative vibes and feelings and just do as you do.
Your original music is far better than you think.
Thanks

This is a sound byte of an unfinished version of Heaven and Hell that I recorded with Eric Wright on drums, Keli Wilde on bass and myself playing all the guitar tracks. It was originally recorded in 2018. In 2019, I trimmed the song down to around 2 minutes and 20 seconds and pitched it to the band (Fire Control) that I was in at the time. The band voted not to add the song to our list. This song is one that was lost when my PC crashed in February of 2020, so this is all that remains of the original recording...

Heaven & Hell 08-10-2019 - Sound Byte Vocals.mp3

******* UPDATE ********

My son ran a recovery program on my old hard drive and recovered a number of Audacity projects. One of those projects was my Heaven & Hell demo. The last half of the song's vocals are missing and will have to be sung over again, but the first half of the vocals are still there.

Honest opinion - Are my vocals strong and "right" enough on this soundbyte to put the extra effort into finishing this song???

Your vocals are pretty close but you need that growl that Ronnie had, on the ending of some of the parts. Would continue with this.
Cheers

create songs and let them go, haters will hate lovers will love.

even great artists gets dislikes, music is a art and its not competition. Just do your thing and be happy creating songs.
Thats what I do, like you I dont like my playing but some people do.
My point is just keep rocking man!

WOW!!!!

I was just listening to the guitar tracks. I put a TON of effort into this, panning each of the staccato guitar phrases left & right to make it more interesting to the listner. Also, the guitar tone is just unreal. I had to think back to August of 2019!!!!

This song was recorded using my black Garage-Built Les Paul with the Epiphone HB8N bridge pickup, played through my DSL40C and close-miked with a SM-57. I checked my notes from an email I sent around that time and my tube layout was 7025-WA/5751/7025-WA/5751 tubes with a Electro-Harmonix 12VR75 Speaker. Naturally, we had the amp cranked.

I recently gave that amp to my current bandleader as a Christmas gift.

Here's the Garage-Built Les Paul, assembled from B. Hefner parts, before they folded in 2020:

I also used a borrowed "Flahsback" delay for the recording and the delay is just outstanding. I cannot even duplicate that delay signature in Audacity!!!!

This song is better than I remembered!!!! We recorded this in the bass player's garage in Riverside and - at the time - we were meeting twice a week for about 4-5 hours to rehearse these songs. My chops were definitely on-point on this effort.

What happened?

Make/Model of hard drive(s)?

Not sure...It was an HP Model HPE-1701 that my son built for me. One morning, it gave me the "blue screen" and then we couldn't access the drive any longer. My Son replaced the drive, wisely talked me into adding external storage and got me back in business, but I lost a LOT of files.

Today, I also found he had sent 5 live recordings from Fire Control Band from 2019.

I'm uploading them now to DropBox!!!!

OK!!!!

Found some pics in the recovered files from the Heaven & Hell recording!!!!!

The dates are in the filenames:

Check out the Gatorade bottle being used to support the tom... :)

Also, dig the pencil sketch of the band "Rainbow" above the drummer!!!!

Dig my amp settings and Microphone placement using the recording of "Heaven & Hell."

Did your son try using a USB hard drive enclosure and hooking it up to another PC/laptop?

I still make a little beer/cigarette money fixing software/hard drive issues on people's laptop's and I've always been able to retrieve folders/files from "dead" hard drives using one.

I'm not sure. I kinda leave all of that to the smart guys...

All I know is he used a recovery program of some sort....

This song is really what I would consider a lifetime achievement of sorts. We've been working on it for years and there are literally hundreds of takes to try and get the phrasing and tone correct. It's probably about as good as it will ever be.

You can hear the late Keli Wilde on bass and I'm singing my own harmonies.
