Thought this would be a cool thread to create. I have been digging through DropBox and have found a bunch of old demos and a few sound bytes. I thought I would post up some links here. As many of you know, I had a double hard drive failure in February of 2020, and as a result, many Audacity projects were lost forever. However, I had posted quite a few bits and pieces on Drop Box, so I thought this would be a fun thread.

Enjoy...

Here is our version of "Immigrant Song" with the late Keli Wilde on bass and Ffej Rednil on drums. This is the last song that Keli and I played on. It was remixed two days after his death. I am performing all vocal tracks:

Here's my high register backing vocals from this recording. They were pulled way back in the mix, but if you listen closely to the completed recording, you can hear them:

Ok,

Here is another complete song featuring Keli Wilde on bass. It was recorded during our last session together (during the same session as Immigrant Song) and it was supposed to be added to our demo CD as a cover song, but our vocalist at the time objected to singing the song for some reason, so it was shelved.

I am playing all guitars on this track.

LICK IT UP - STUDIO PROJECT - 02-08-2019.mp3

The first one is a version of Heaven and Hell that I recorded with Eric Wright on drums, Keli Wilde on bass and myself playing all the guitar tracks. Sometime last year, I trimmed the song down to around 2 minutes and 20 seconds and pitched it to the band (Fire Control) that I was in at the time. The band voted not to add the song to our list. This song is one that was lost when my PC crashed in February of 2020, so this is all that remains pf the original recording...

Here's a version of "Breakin The Law"that we recorded in my home studio. Drum tracks were knocked out by session drummer extraordinaire, Ffej Rednil and I am playing all bass and guitar tracks. The lead vocals were performed by former Blind Attribution lead vocalist Jim Welte and I am singing several backing vocal tracks behind him.

This is the last project that Jim and I worked on. I resigned from Fire Control and was promptly hired by Soloman Grundy, so this could be considered the very last recorded piece from the old Fire Control band...

Ok,

Here is another jewel from the DropBox Archive. This was recorded at my friend and colleague's Burbank studio. It features Ffej Rednil on drums, me on bass and me also playing all guitar tracks. This was created to be used as a demo to book the band at local clubs, but the band members objected because they were not playing on the recording, so it was never used...

Ok,

Here's a 2019 garage recording of the now defunct Fire Control band, with it's final lineup. Henry Juarez on drums. Robbie J and I were playing two rhythm guitar parts. Robbie J played all the solos. Aaron R was on bass and sang the lead vocals. This was the first time that we had played this song together. All instruments were recorded simultaneously.

A more recent song from the DropBox Archive...in July of 2020, the old Fire Control vocalist asked me if I would be interested in recording a cover of "Big City Nights" with him. My drummer friend and I recorded the basic tracks in Burbank and I brought the files home, imported them into Audacity and finished the guitar parts, doubling an improvised spin on Jab's original solo arrangement.

We are still trying to schedule the time to get together and get his vocals down o this track...

Big City Nights Project - 07-25-2020.mp3

Another project from DropBox. This features the basic tracks of my cover version of Velvet Revolver's "Falling Down" (or Fall To Pieces) and it is likely the only recording I have with my Gibson SG in use.

FALLING DOWN - Gibson SG - Take 4 + Bass & Drums.mp3

Here is the finished demo (recorded and completed on 03/15/2019) with all the other instruments added. The rhythm guitar tracks feature 4 tracks of guitars - two on my Gibson SG and two played on the 12 string side of my Von Herndon Custom Doubleneck. I am playing all guitars and bass, plus singing lead and harmony vocals. Special thanks to studio drummer extraordinaire Ffej Rednil for the use of his studio and the drum parts....

Solo is improvised and was played on the six string side of the Von Herndon Doubleneck. The unique tone you hear on the solo is the bridge tone pot rolled all the way to zero with a 0.01uf box capacitor. @ivan H will dig this...

Here's one you guys might enjoy...I would call this a kind of "behind the scenes" look at how a song is put togather.

This is my isolated bass guitar tracks from the recording of my cover of Motorhead's Ace of Spades that took place in July of 2018. The bass used was a cheap, Ibanez import, through a fender Rumble 40 (direct out) with an old 1980's era Arion Metal master used for an overdriven effect. I super glued 6 guitar picks together to create a super bass pick.

Here's my isolated guitar solo from the Ace Of Spades recording:

And here is the completed song. I am singing lead vocals and performing multiple guitar tracks. Drums courtesy of session drummer extraordinaire Ffej Rednil. Special thanks to producer and engineer Jeff Gudenrath for mixing and mastering this track to perfection.

Yes, I grew up on a farm and country music was how my Mom made a living, so I began singing back up and playing in her band when I was about 10 years old. Country wasn't my first love, but I have performed it when it was asked of me.

I have always loved the song "Man Of Constant Sorrow" from the movie "Brother, Where For Art Though?" and one day, I just decided to record it here at home. No click track or instruments, just singing to the beat in my head. I am singing all the backing vocals too.

Great job on this track Robert, really very well done (I've yet to listen to the other tracks).
As Robert knows, I have 0.01uf tone caps on several guitars. A while back Robert & I discussed our dislike of how, with 0.022uf tone caps the tone muddies up & loses clarity & definition when the tone control is turned below about 5. Robert put me onto trying an 0.01uf for the neck humbucker, but it seems we're both using them for bridge humbuckers too.
With this value the full rotation of the tone pot is useable, no loss of clarity/definition & no muddiness involved when turning it down low.
Nice tone on that solo Robert, & again great job on the track. Cheers

I am just going to leave one comment on all you have posted
Great work brother I appreciate being able to listen to it all.
The immigrant song sounds like you invited Lemmy over to jam with you guys.
Thanks for sharing your work Robert always a pleasure!!

Thank you for the kind words, my friend...

Hard to believe that I have now recorded over 100 covers songs!!!!! Some of this work was intended to generate a list of the "Top 5" covers to appear on my solo CD, and part of the logic was to become the best producer I could, through trial and error.
