NGD Report - Schecter Hellraiser Floyd Rose:

Again...I ask...

...Is this a bad time to say, “I told ya so”?

No matter...just a thang!

I haven’t played a Gibson since...well...since the last time I played a Gibson...

I‘ve been gettin’ some tonez from my Strattykaster, though!

I'm foolish about some things....

I went that route with the cloth wire and the PIO capacitors and I was sure that only a Les Paul with an aluminum tailpiece could give me what I was looking for. To some degree, I think I went down this 'Rabbit Hole' because of Jimmy Page, Gary Moore, Randy Rhoads, Bill Bartlett, Paul Kosoff, Zakk Wylde and others who made such a huge impression upon me with the Les Paul and it's tone. However, I learned a lot and the lessons were indeed valuable., but I knew that I didn't want to keep working that hard and fighting tuning issues mid-song because we were getting baked outside, so I just decided to make the switch.

I'd argue there isn't anything foolish in that. You learned from the experience, and learning is never a waste. I used to mod the hell out of my guitars...all of them except the Les Pauls. And I realized at some point I was just trying to make everything sound like a Les Paul, so I gave it up and just focused on the Les Pauls. Over the past 5-6 years I have really started to love the tone of some other guitars but I always go back to the Les Pauls, and for me learning that took many years, mucho dinero and trials and tribulations with other makes and models. Seems to me we both had the same journey in a certain sense, we just ended up in opposite places and there's not a damn thing wrong with that because it's now settled business after the experience.

Agreed,

I only regret that - for me - the building and modding took precedent over playing and learning more...

No sexy photos of the cavities on the back?

Also I guarantee you will be happiest with the FR if you fit a string set that has lower string tension on the treble side than a standard set, for example 9-46 or 10-52

Hey, Dave!

I tend to always use the Ernie Ball Cobalts in 9x46 on everything.

Also these triple coil pickups - 81TW and 89R - really are fantastic.

Have you worked out how to get the control cavity cover off yet? Schecter covers are notoriously tight. Once I managed to get mine off I ran around the edge with a razor blade to scrape a few layers of plastic off for a looser fit

My wife threatened me if I opened it up... :)

seriously, this guitar needs NOTHING, which is why I went back to Schecter....
