NEW SONG IDEAS

Here's the interface I'm looking into.
Through sweetwater its $359.00 but also found it through reverb for around $200.00
I figure that it can do an ok job for drums until second one is acquired. Then for mic's I'm thinking for now a sm57 and a condencer mic not sure what one though. I'd like to be able to mic 2 speakers on the cabs when recording

It seems that a lot of people have been happy with the Scarlett line. That one is easily expanded upon via ADAT...you can add something like a Behringer ADA8200 for short $...or stay in the Focusrite family with an OctoPre for twice the $.
Twelve preamp channels is usually more than enough to capture a drum kit with excellent detail...
kick
snare top
snare bottom
hi-hat(if you feel the need)
toms(our drummer has 5)
2 overheads
1-2 room/ambient (if you’ve got the room for it ;) )

heck, I’ve made some decent 10 track live band recordings....
4 drum mic’s on a kit(kick, snare top, 2 overheads)
3 vocal mic’s (3 of us sing)
2 guitars (1 close mic each)
1 bass (either mic, or DI....usually DI)

But the 18i8 also has 4 line inputs on board...if you have a mixer of some kind kicking around...or a couple/few preamps kicking around....well...cool.

A lot EQ that I do not possess!!
Well someday I will!!

been using Steinberg UR22 for all the songs i do. I can't tell the dif between mine & the studio's gazillion dollar set up. prob is on paper..these are down to great prices. Finding out bells & whistles on recording stuff doeant matter that much. been getting very good 1 trick ponies..but they do it well19 studio 6 (2).jpg

Yep....these days, most of the affordable A-D/D-A converters would have cost thousands of $ fifteen years ago. I’m amazed with the results I get from my little mixer now. On some of the bargain boxes of today, the preamps are probably the weakest link(speculation on my part). The option to bypass them is most always a good one...like on the Scarlett 18i8; the four line inputs should be great for using good/great analog outboard preamps(like yours).

Such good advice there !!!..when i was asking all those question to you few months back. Came to realize.. We have amazing gear for minimal $$$ at our disposal now....every song i do....tell my self...performance...capture it..that is where the magic happens..we are all on pretty level playing fields these days at home....there is a learning curve..maybe forever..
been going minimal lately..focusing on the playing...not even mixing much..recording it all level...with instruments chosen meticulously to sit right on top eachother in the mix..getting everything sounding like whats coming out the speaker captured..that is what the gear is for to me. and making a cradle in the EQ for the singer..that is what took the most time to learn..means some sacrifice on guitars but did notice the song is clearer..tend to play full chords under her if possible vs palm muting to death & clouding it all up

I like the Scatterbrain riffing.
Thanks JG that song just came to me out of nowhere, one day playing the V and running through the the origin.
I have a clip with Scott on the drums, it’s possible it may even be in this thread somewhere, what the hell I will just get and bring it!!

Please, gentlemen, keep chatting about recording stuff...it actually is really helpful even of I may not reply.

We haven't managed to pick up any equipment yet since my last posts.

In any case, as a thanks, I offer these pics lol...LRT and I have been working hard on snake eyes. We have a new (phone recording) version that is to be uploaded as soon as it's done processing...

Until then, please accept these pics of the session in anticipation of our new recording (if you're not bored to tears with it yet, that is...)

Here we go!

....and my lyrics, 'cause I'm fully aware that my vocals are not intelligible on the phone recording or whatever that problem might be....:

Ok now I feel like I am there with you guys , I can’t wait to hear the rendition .
The Orange cabs the bassist’s rig ??

Yes sir Mitch, all the orange is the bass player's.

Unfortunately, he's not involved in this "side project"....he doesn't want to play any of the heavier stuff that I've written...only the poop he's written himself....so we've made a compromise and I keep my stuff separate. The other band I'm in is called Learn the Hardway, and it's more punk-oriented, I do zero vocal work in that group....

But that's not my poop. I'm a goddamned head banger and I will never deny that side of myself to myself....but that doesn't mean I am not willing to write and play with his project....so there's that, anyway lol

I am a heavy hitter, some my stuff may not sound it, but my abilities are what they are, I would love to work and write with ya, you have some tunes that I would really like to get on and add my two cents.
Cheers
