New Solo Music Project:

OK! with the vocals the lead makes a lot of sense. You asked who it sounded like. To me it was like Blackmore but not as frantic. I find he sometimes plays too much. I prefer a more restrained approach. Tone wise very much Blackmore but with the phrasing toned done with a little Clapton in his slow hand phase influence. Very, very nice. Can't wait to hear the final mix. I really like the way the lead compliments the vocals and doesn't take away from them.

That's an awesome observation, Kerry! Thank you!

New project today - Motorhead's Ace of Spades :-)

Yep. Like I said, I've never wanted to be a singer but I've had to fill in a lot over the years so I can get by in a pinch.
Well, I'm just as impressed with your singing as I am with your guitar playing.

I wish I could sing...
I wish I could play guitar real well...
I wish I could sing and play guitar real well...
I wish, I wish, I wish... :osnap:

You can do anything you set your mind too.
Thanks, Man. I am grateful for your review. I kept the tune real simple. Over a minute of the ending will get "cut off" when the fade out is put in...still not finished with it.

My favorite part of this song is the rhythm guitar progression being played under the lead. Listen with phones!

So here's a really cool thing that I wanted to share. The drummer I met called this morning. He asked if i'm interested in a project.

A local bar/card room wants to do a radio commercial using "Ace of Spades." The cost to license the original is astronomical. However, its not too expensive to license a cover ver through The Harry Fox Agency.

So, the"job" is creating a cover of "Ace of Spades" for hire. I thought this would be a fun project so I accepted and the timeline is 90 days, so its easy and fun.

The drummer will lay down the drum track and I been fiddling with my bass, watching Lemmy videos and practicing alternate bass picking and also bass chords ala Lemmy.

So, I will track 4 guitar parts, all detuned to Eb.

First track - left channel 100% panned open E is the alternating rhythm and the Dsus4/Csus4 phrases

Second track - right channel 100% panned playing the same rhythm phrasing an octave higher

Third track is the descending lead phrase and the g/b salvo

Final track will be the actual lead centered.

The problem is, we don't (as of yet) have a Lemmy style vocalist, but I have performed this song before - although I can only sing it once a night, so I will knock it out here at home and - 'wurst case scenario' - we have to dig up a singer.

So, that's how the new project came about... :-)

Make sure you have the microphone stand adjusted properly...

Great job Robert. You sing very well, and that's not an easy song for vocals. I particularly like the vocals going into the lead. Yup, like it man.

Thanks, Man. I love the song...always have!

Me too. One of my faves.
You've inspired me to learn it. I learned most of the lead last night....I have to learn it as written, cause I can't do improv like you.

I also Love Death Ally Driver....That's a rocking song. Out of my league though.

You did Stone Cold some justice. Enjoyed it.

Ritchie's rhythm part is much more articulate and played with much less gain. It is also plucked with the fingers as opposed to being picked.

However, if you listen to the driving rhythm under the lead guitar, its very heavy and I kept Blackmore's arrangement there.

Do a You Tube search for Mike Gross Rainbow Stone Cold Guitar Lesson. He demonstrates Ritchie's technique.

Once the song is done I will post the mastered version.

No effects other than amp gain was used on the Blackstar and it was recorded via the emulated line out. I double tracked the lead guitar part to me it sound bigger. The "wah" effect in the beginning section of the lead phrasing is a very aggressive three-fingered pick attack...

Great track there Robert. Attention to details really pays off. The lead and vocals really complement each other well.
