and it will METAL and CHUG all the way home

Aint no lie. Wound up these things sound like they are trying to hurt you.

Very good articulation there. Didn't get that with the Filmore 50.

the Filmore goes for more of Fenderish sound, in my opinion. The Mini Rec is an absolute slayer.
No. The Rectoverb is a Mini-Rectifier with the addition of spring reverb, so it's a modern hard rock/metal voicing, despite the misleading inclusion of a vintage mode. That mode means vintage in the sense of being similar to the first Rectifiers, not meant to be voiced like an amp from another era. The preamp is the same circuit that's in the full-size Rectos, and really does sound the same to my ears, you just don't get the wind in your trousers the same way you do with the big-bottle amps.

TBH, I run my Mini-Rec in the "vintage" mode on the red channel much more than the "modern" mode. The modern removes all negative feedback from the power section and for me tends to make things slightly more brittle in the midrage. If you need a lot of volume though, that's the mode to use as it's quite a big volume jump and has a heck of a lot more headroom.

The truth has been spoken!

What exactly is it called?
It’s a Triple Rectifier. One hundred and fifty watts of brutality. I have the one hundred watt version. I’ve had it since around 2002. Good luck with that beast. It’ll take the fillings out of your teeth, and dust any ceiling fixtures for you.

I don’t know how easy it is to find genuine Mesa tubes online, and tax free, these days.
You know what they did with the deductions this year....
It’s a ~$2500.00 head....with a warranty...if you take care of it.

Well I've had one of these RectoVerb 25 things for a while now and have to say I'm hooked.

It's the Mesa sound that I was looking for.
The clean channel goes from Fender type clean to moderately pushed like an old tweed running on the ragged edge, with a tube driven spring reverb that can go from subtle to complete washed out sonic mayhem with the twist of a knob.
The overdrive channel gets interesting real quickly with Santanaesque singing sustained leads, to naturally compressed harmonically rich overtones that will squeal like a stuck pig when asked.

Definitely the most toneful amp that I have owned to date.
More brutal than the F30 that it replaced, yet still highly refined and able to do many things well.
The only things Mesa's can't do well is light. For a small combo, they are backbreakers.

They're very easy to find, either direct from Mesa or from Sweetwater or another authorized dealer. Don't know about tax-free through, it does seem like that is becoming a thing of the past.

Anyways, buying something like a Triple Rec and worrying about what the eventual retube will cost is a bit like buying a Ferrari and sweating the cost of an oil change or brake job to me.
Tubes are consumables, and you know going in that they won't last forever. I'd think you wouldn't even have to worry about it for 5-7 years unless you were gigging it nightly.

:iagree:
Indeed, I was riffing on the “tax free” part:D. They are easy enough to find online.

Re: worrying about the re-tube cost...
Yes, I’ve re-tubed my Dual Rec a couple/few times...it’s part of the experience for sure. Not complaining at all, just pointing out that upkeep on the “monster” amps gets fairly pricey by some standards. Some people spend less on an amp than a full EL34 re-tube on a Triple Rec...or, put another way...Two sets of tubes for a Triple Rec equals one new Marshall DSL40 combo amp, or similar. I was just trying to point out the maintenance/upkeep necessities for those that might not think of it.:)
Now, just how, and where, someone would burn through two sets of tubes for such a monster is a bit beyond me these days...because you are spot on with the fact that unless you’re flogging the beast a few nights a week(while wearing proper hearing protection-because you’re gonna need it...just ask my bass player:wink:), you’re not going to “need” to re-tube often. That said, it is good practice to keep a full set on hand as spares...Because you never know.
:cheers::dood:
