Life might require a Klon pedal

am very much looking forward this demo RVA is going to do... ifound my tone for the Song on Tues..laGrange & SG faded on Neck pup on 7 & tone on 7..very woody but a lil top end.. can side pic it & get this cool thing going on ..def anti bridge sound....see what studio guy can extract out of me..the RAT & SGJ is going on top..all these guitars & my cheapy always kills it on leads..those 61 zebra are just so articulate but have mojo between 7-10 !!
 
I've never had the opportunity to play with a real Klon built by Bill Finnegan, but I can honestly vouch for the performance and extra features of the Wampler Tumnus Deluxe @ $200 new, or $140 used. Wampler also makes a smaller and less featured version of the Tumnus at $150-new to $100-used.

Another excellent Klon-clone that I'm very familiar with is the BYOC Silver Pony. You can build one from a kit for $80, or buy a prebuilt for about $110.

The video that sold me on the original BYOC Silver Pony kit:
The newer version of the SP now has a couple extra eq switching features compared to the one in the video.

i enjoyed it...to me this is the stuff gear sites should be all about.. had a serious gear questions & my mates are guiding me there...RVA in a matter of few hours put up a real live clip...TTR rules man..its why even if i can't articulate what i mean..always try to explain & post the guitars & amps used. the best i can..in hopes maybe it helps guide..real hands on info is how i buy my gear ...this place is a gem !!
 
Ive had SOul Foods and Gold Horses--Silver Centaurs-- purple paisley cattle---- and several other things--

Nothing beats the real tube break up of a MESA ---just saying ;)
 
pedals seem like they could be fun. to get into..never needed em with Marshall...didnt want to touch those mids,,spot on..Fender,,,its like an open season where the natural mid scoop is wide open to color on..
 
I have the Mosky Silver horse and like it as well.
I also have and like the EHX Soul Food.
I have never played the real Klon.

Neither is an exact clone I have read BUT - are said fit the mold of "transparent overdrive" of Klon-ness.

Both of these shine with the amp clean-ish/ just into breakup with the pedal output high and the gain pretty low.
They compliment amp OD or stacked with other drive pedals (I usually put before).
As standalone OD / distortion pedals into a clean amp, not so much, in my limited experience anyway.

There are good articles here that discusses matching the right drive to the EQ of the amp used, ie Tubescreamer with the mid hump better for blackface / mid scooped fenders, etc.



And ya, its a tumble down a rabbit hole to be sure.

For around $20, for the Mosky you cant go wrong.
Buy one, plug in tune up and kerrrang!

EDIT: Checked my Reverb Purchases......
I got the Soul Food first, keep looking for deals.
I got mine new With the power supply shipped for @$64.77.
I think during some Black Friday or cyber whatever deal - it was actually mid-july 2018.

I got a few of the moskys after that figuring at around $20 its less than a 30-pack of the Miller Lite I empty too quickly.
I like their Obsessive (OCD clone) a lot, more gain then either Klon.
The MM Silver (Timmy clone) I cant get anything good out of.
