Let's Talk About Picks!

Yup Chub, we think alike. The greatest tool is our mind.

Having basically a non mechanical dad, a small hammer, a straight and phillips screw driver, I was up against it to ever be able to take care of anything as a boy or man in the future.

Once I learned about Vise Grips, I was hooked. As I grew, I could never get enough learning how things worked, and how to fix em when they didn't. Thus began my creativity to make what tools I did have do jobs they were never intended to do. Heck, I have even used a blade or grass, a simple drinking straw, busted open a light switch or 2 gang socket to scavenge the brass metal inside to make a connector for my car fuse panel for a hookup to make my brake light work off a switch until the shorted wire could be traced and repaired.

That plasti dip stuff is as good a multi purpose tool as any. 2 Thumbs up Chub
 
Chub, I cannot even fathom losing a parent so young. I sure hope you and mom found much healing and a happier life after that. I also hope if she desired, that she found love again and possibly you had a stepdad or even uncle or good man friend to mentor you as you grew up. I was blessed to have had my mom remarry a selfless, kind and loving man who showed me the best example of how a man should treat kids and especially a wife. Unlike my real dad who failed at all manner of interpersonal skills and thus caused almost irreperable damage to our home life, my stepdad really put his new family first and thus defined what a dad truly should be for kids that were essentially a 2nd family to raise.
 
My mom eventually stopped dating, and never remarried. There was three of us (with my older brother). It's coming up to 50 years since my dad died. I still miss him as much. He died at 44, I'm 54. To me, he was a giant (4" shorter than me). It just doesn't come to mind as often.

I remember ads for these in the back of all the magazines (remember magazines?)

A couple years ago I decided to finally try one. They feel weird and they don't sound too good, it's mostly a training tool. But it did work some, for if you do not have impeccable technique, the pick will hang up on the strings, exposing us for the charlatans that we really are...

This all reminds me, when my Wife and I went into a long&Mcwade guitar store out of town. I said I needed some picks, My Wife said a pick is a pick, Immediately the three guys working there and myself said no way! all at the same time, We all had a good laugh over that. And it still comes up in conversation at times.:D

well I mean like two nights a year it MIGHT get in the mid 40's maybe... (those nights we do NOT leave the house and wear those HORRIBLE restrictive things called sleeves and PANTS-- and we drink coconut rum in hot chocolate--- ugh)

Nigerian Dwarf Goats-- Im sure they have some with extra FUR up your way ;)
