Let's Talk About Picks!

I've used the thick 1.14 Dunlop Tortex for years. I recently tried Dava Control grip picks with a very similar feel. The red ones' have the same material as my Dunlops. The have a great rubber grip that works very well. It's hard to drop. There's a feature where as you hold it towards the tip, it feels firmer. IMO, it's partly hype. I do love these picks partly because they have a sharper point. I think these are by new no. 1 pick.

Any idea what the different colors=gauges? Ballpark guess? I wouldn't know, I've only got the one Dava pick and it's white (black rubber, of course)

Damn, all this talk of smoking & quitting. I know I've gotta give them up (45 yr smoker). I've talked to several successful quitters & they all say the best method is to just stop cold turkey. Now I just gotta get serious & do it. Cheers
45 years! That's commitment bro lol

I would probably agree that cold turkey is the best for several different reasons.

Problem is, the willpower has to be there. There's nothing stopping us from grabbing a pack at any time, other than willpower. You can't up and move away; start over fresh somewhere new. You can't stop calling your dealer(s) or avoid people who are involved. Because every single gas station, convenience store, most grocery stores, and other places have them and it's often some place you'll eventually be in for some other purpose anyway, you won't get thrown in jail for possessing them, or anything. Not that I think we should ban them or incarcerate people, or anything drastic like that lol, all I'm saying is that there's literally nothing other than our own sheer willpower that will help us quit and stay quit. Literally nothing else stands in our way.

I'm an addict. My brain will tell me anything to make it make sense at the time. "It's okay, you had a rotten day/just got laid/fought with the wife/got fired/whatever... Doesn't a nice smoke sound relaxing? You don't even need to have one, but doesn't just one sound good? After that, you don't have to have any more, but just one sounds pretty nice...I bet it'll help you chillax a little bit, and just one won't hurt at all...."

FuckYoo Brain!!

My willpower sucks. I'm still at a pack or more a day.

I smoked Marlboro Reds for years, then they made all the ciggies "FSC" and something was different and I didn't like em anymore. So I switched to Camel filters and smoked those for almost a decade.

Then I quit. For years.

In July of 2016, I had an accident on the farm that quite nearly cost me my left hand. I went home all bonkers on painkillers after my trip to the ER, and I fell off the wagon. That was a bad day, and I just wanted to have a smoke.

Fast forward to today and I'm a Marlboro guy again.

I hate cigarettes. I want to quit for good again, but it's a battle that I just don't feel like I can win at the moment. Also it's a battle that I simply don't have the will to fight right now.

Damned things.

Don't give up on getting free of it... The way I did it was to empty the contents of an ash tray
into a Tupperware container, and tamp the lid down. Then every time I felt the urge for a cigarette,
I would open the container and take a sniff.

That worked. Aversion therapy. It is an addictive drug, but the physical craving goes away after about 48 hours.
The smelly butts and ashes help with the residual habit too. I am soooooo glad I quit.
If I can do it, you can do it.

I've quit before, but it didn't take. It's been a little over 3 years since I started smoking again. I'm going to have to try to quit again for sure.

I made it 6 months, then started back up!! :(

I know one guy, ex heavy smoker that used an "aid" to give up (this may be of help to some smokers). When I asked how he quit he told me "tincture of Saint John's Wort". Upon awakening in the morning, take on cap full (cap from the bottle). Tastes (apparently) absolutely foul, but the taste will go away with your morning coffee (or tea or whatever). If at any time during the day you take even one drag on a cigarette that foul taste will immediately return & you will not be able to get rid of it for the rest of the day. Of course, I went to see my pharmacist to enquire about some & was unfortunately told it (tincture of Saint John's Wort) would badly react with medication that I need to take daily, so I can't use it. The pharmacist did say that the tincture was effective in helping people quit smoking though. Hopefully this helps someone, though be aware, Saint John's Wort does react with quite a few medications, check with your Dr or pharmacist to see if you can use it. Oh, Saint John's Wort is an herb. Cheers
