I've been banned from the Marshall Forum...

Brother Steve, I thought I noticed over the past few days that your post count for the month has been going dow. (according to the monthly leaders blurb on the right side of the page). I thought, maybe I was buzzed and blew it off, last night I was pretty sure, so I wrote down the # of posts you had for the month, it was 178, today it was 173.

I hadn't looked at that since I first saw it after the change over and I'm pretty sure it was 190 something, seems like 193, but I'm not sure. It's probably all the posts I made cheating the new bad word censors. Plus I'm sure some of the complaint threads have been deleted.

I guess they've changed their mind.
I'm still getting this message when I try to log in:

"You have been banned for the following reason: divisive / asked to be banned / giving him time to cool off. You will now be logged out."

The part of the message that said, "Your ban will be lifted on Jul 3, 2026 at 12:00 AM." has been removed.
Apparently, I must need an undetermined amount of additional time to cool off.
Either that, or they are flat out afraid of me logging in and posting something that they would have trouble digesting.

My guess is antidepressants. He's chemically tripping. Cross used to be pretty straightforward and to the point. Trying to give things a positive push in the 'right' direction, but he's been all flowers and buttercups recently. This is the ugly side, it seems.

It seems (and I didn't know this until they rammed a counter in my face sidebar) that I'm the #1 contributor over there. I'll miss some of the old techs.
Cross has been unfailingly good to me.

He has rescued me with messages such as 'you probably meant this post to be private'.
Thanks mate. You're right. Sometimes I stay up too late at night (and have a drink.)

For years I have ignored any and all forum dramas.
Well, they just sailed past me. Sometimes I would ask 'what are these forum members talking about?'
Somebody would say 'there was some drama last week'.

Sometimes I think that, despite my advanced age, I am like a child - not knowing what's going on.

Anyway: I'm happy to be here.

That's the important bit, mate. I, for one, certainly appreciate your presence. I might still call you 'tubes' after all these years, though... :-)

Yes, I have a lot of respect for him, myself. He's not quite the same as he used to be though. I reached out to him and Dogs to say goodbye and wish them the best.

I signed up here a few years ago, but when I logged in, every post displayed the user's IP address. That's a huge privacy & security no-no, so I never posted and never came back. Seems ok now. Moderators can still see your IP address, same as any forum.
Nobody can see my IP address. I am behind seven proxies. And A VPN. And Tor. And Tails. And Qubes.
And I never use System D because it's the work of the devil.

And I am grateful for our mods here which are unquestionably the best mods on the internet! Because they do such a great job, they don't really have much work to do because the slightest bit of misbehavior is nipped in the bud leaving only fine people in our membership! One big happy family of refugees from previous forums that have been bought out or just had a staff of power trippers. This will be our 10th year of existence and I'm happy to say there has been only a handful of banished members. Mostly scammer spammers
Cheers WavMixer. I hardly know you, and we've only just met, and I have not yet read the terms and conditions properly. Please be a dear and give me a free pass if I sin against them a couple of times.

Not sure I'd call Lennart the devil, but close enough. He kinda made up for a little bit of that trainwreck with Pulseaudio, I guess. Not a fan myself (JACK ftw) but if you want surround playback on Linux that's pretty much the only way.

Most people don't expose any ports in their NAT anyway using IPv4. Worst thing they can do is attempt a DoS (flooding/swamping your uplink), which is unlikely to work without a little diversification of source IP's (botnet, etc), pretty much. The old "I've got your IP now" adage is a bit 90's, really.

I expose some services, have done for decades. I also run IDS and IPS, have backup uplinks, etc. I see people trying things from time to time, but they've never managed much more than slow down my nightly logrotate jobs.

This thread makes me sad/mad. I get the forum software updates can be frustrating- I've been through so many on so many forums over the decades, but that stuff usually smooths out and people keep on keeping on..for the most part.

However, I wasn't aware of MF going FUBAR with banning and deleting posts, etc. Granted, I don't spend much time in the backstage areas and usually stick to gear and music topics. At the end of the day, weeding out true "problem members" is one thing, but the aforementioned mod behavior regarding outstanding citizens * is the stuff that kills a forum community.

At any rate- glad to be here, and thanks for having me. I'll try not to terrorize TTR community with my terrible demos/playing like I do on MF.

* Don't get used to the compliments , @fitz Keep your ego in check.
Cheers JeffB,

Personally, I usually stuck to listening to forum members playing their guitars and amps.
A while back, that was a very enjoyable venue with a lot of participants and good sounds.
In those days many forum members were exposed as being accomplished players with good bands.

You still have to show an IP address to use the Web. Even if you're standing behind 7 men, though they can't see the real you, they can see the 7th man in front of you.
Yeah but in a couple of weeks, when I get around to it, I am going to configure my very router to only use encrypted DNS resolution over encrypted HTTPS.

None of you Fed boys are going to harvest any data from me.

Doesn't change your source IP, neither does DoH (DNS over HTTP) add much value if you're using a typical VPN or Tor proxy type setup. It would be more effective to change your preferred DNS servers to something external rather than your local NAT gateway.
