Is tone in the hands, or the pedals?

same amp-- same guitar -- same player -- same mic-- same room----
3 different tones.........................................................................................................................

feel free to argue amongst yourselves......its beer thirty ;)
Changed wiper blades on the wifes van--- time to relax and celebrate todays accomplishments..,...

I think the Celestion sounds more Marshally than the others do...but yeah, same amp, same player, same mic, etc 3 different tones completely dependent on the speaker in that example.....speakers are gear/equipment...Johan didn't just do some magic wizardry with his hands/fingers, he demonstrates the tonal differences of the speakers, yet played like he always does. Did it sound like Johan? Yes it did! Did it still sound like Johan when he used different speakers? Yes it did! Were the tones the same? No they weren't. Why? Because it was the change of speaker that made the tonal difference, not because he did anything different with his hands/fingers...nothing he can do with his hands/fingers is going to make any of those speakers sound the same as each other...

BTW, it's not as bad as at the MF.
A similar thread was necro'd yesterday and has immediately collapsed into death threats and recrimination!

It's sometimes quite funny to watch folk lose their heads over such a subjective subject.
It seems more like an argument about semantics more than anything else.

Yeah, sorry if you are offended @bea.
We Brits, do have a tendency to make light of the most hideous and awful events of history and modern times to make them more bearable. It is a way of disarming the demons. If you ridicule the devils you start to strip away their power over you.
You can add me to this list with you Brits. This is a great way to describe this type of reverse psychology. I'm a huge worrywart... I can easily go into anxiety and even depression when overwhelmed by "crazy stuff" that happens to me personally or against others. A warped sense of humor helps and balances the craziness for me.... Ok, enough of this! Back to some Rock N Roll... :dood:

Exactly, it's truly about confidence. You need to put all your energy into every note and just know it's the right choice. Once you believe in your note selection you will play them with far more authority, tone and soul than if you doubt yourself with every beat.

I've got several buds that would be far better if they did so. They play every note with uncertainty, almost indecipherably, as if not to be noticeable if they hit a sour note. It's too bad they wont just dig in an own the mistakes.

I place my highest value on performing. All the gear is just a support system. My guitars and amps are nothing more than the necessary tools for the job.
