Is tone in the hands, or the pedals?

I've tried this thread here before lol!

...pretty much went exactly as expected :ROFLMAO:

I maintain that music and technique is in the hands, tone is in the gear. Technique can and does manipulate tone, but the hands play the music while the instruments/gear do the sounding

Because if it's not, there's absolutely no reason why we're not all playing air guitars, right? Why do any of us need more than one guitar or amp? Why do we like certain combinations of guitars and amps and such if the tone comes from the fingers? You mean to tell me that I can sound just like James Hetfield if I'm playing a Squier Bullet series strat with single coils plugged into a Peavey Rage 158? And all that is coming from my hands alone?

Agree completely. And I have to say, as great a player as he was, SRV (donning flame suit) had some weak tone. Run-of-the-mill modern blues tone you can hear at every bar on Beale Street.

Yeah, sorry if you are offended @bea.
We Brits, do have a tendency to make light of the most hideous and awful events of history and modern times to make them more bearable.
It is a way of disarming the demons. If you ridicule the devils you start to strip away their power over you.
I am sure that Hitler is viewed through an entirely different lens in Germany than the rest of the world.
But there are still some out there that venerate the bastard. Hitler's legacy needs to be diminished at all turns.
The film 'Downfall' itself is a lesson in the cowardice and twisted ethics of the man, and how all dictators are brought down from their pedestals in the end.
My mothers family lived in dread of an Axis invasion of Britain due to their mixed Jewish ancestry, but she was too young to understand the enormity of WWII at the time.

Well, this thread took an unexpected turn. :hide:

BTW, it's not as bad as at the MF.
A similar thread was necro'd yesterday and has immediately collapsed into death threats and recrimination!

It's sometimes quite funny to watch folk lose their heads over such a subjective subject.

Haha!
See, the thing is, is that over there, we've been arguing about this for so long that it's become a meme....or a troll lol

I think it's a valid discussion point though. I also think people confuse technique with tone. Often. Probably too often...

What if Dimebag played a JMP2203 instead of his solid state stuff?......would it be Dime? Absofuckinlutely. Would it be the same as we know and love now? Absolutely not! Would have changed the whole Pantera "sound"...but still would have been undeniably Dime's work.

Technique =/= Tone

And, good tone does not always mean good playing/player...

One more thing...

OLD DUDES BE SLEEPING

old dude--- got up peed--- and went back to sleeping but has been up since 5 dealing with critters--- just sat back down to rest and check in on you "young'ans" ;)
Ain't even 5 yet in my neck of the woods.

Sucks for now, but later when I am thinking about opening up a beer, I'll remember that it's 5 o'clock somewhere....else...

And I'll drink up!
