Incoming: Gibson LP Special

It is in hand and safe. I lowered the action and gave it a run in the office. Very resonant with no fret buzz. When I get home, I will give it a string change and finish the setup and see how she sings!!

After looking at this again, I cancelled the deal on the Junior. It's just not what I want and I'd have to replace the tuners, pickup and wiring before I was happy.

I'm going to go on the hunt for another one of these or just buy one full price from MF...

That is a nice deal.

Consider keeping the guitar intact. Having one pup makes you explore tonal variations more creatively, and you will be surprised at what you come up with. It is a good exercise
Like Phil X says .....wanna hear the NECK PUP on a LEs Paul JR.? roll the tone down and pick CLOSER TO THE FRETBOARD ,.........

works great actually

here he discuss why he prefers ONLY a bridge pup

It's not just the one pickup thing for me. The 2015 has too many issues I know I would have to change out...which leads to more $$$.

The fact that it doesn't have the original case and such also devalues the guitar. Just not a win for me right now...

yeah Im guessing the aged grovers........and the 18.00 guitar madness pickup make mine worthless .....I didnt really care about the value (though I can still get more than I paid for it during the MF blowout pricing) ....I play it -- a LOT -- its a great sounding great playing well made hunk of wood :)
Even Ill admit every now and then GIBBO gets one right lol

THis would be a nice "jr" style gutiar ;)

Initial impressions:

Pro:
- intonates perfectly with adjustment room to spare
- 12" fretboard radius is ideal for me - no fretting out on big bends
- nice string spacing and soft D shaped neck - if you have played the 2015 models, it is in that vein, but a little less wide and a little thicker (less flat in back)
- great neck tone
- smooth tuners
- nice strap pins, although I removed them for strap locks
- buzz free even with a dead straight neck
- very resonant acoustically FWIW
- the base plate and screws provide nice height adjustment for the pups. I have found many P90s to be stiff in the cavity and the screws to be difficult to manipulate evenly, but no problems here.
- nice fit and finish overall

Cons:
- unbalanced pups (mostly because of the next point)
- the bridge pup is rather weak even raised all the way up to the strings and with the screws adjusted upward. However, it is not harsh at all. I would consider it a nice tone if it were not so thin
- The nut material seems poor, and possibly string dampening. I may swap it out.

Overall, many more pros than cons for me as you can see. I am very happy!

$3000 is a little high for me right now. If I were to drop that kind of cash I'd get the John Lennon Junior Conversion I really want.
A Lennon-conversion Junior would be pretty cool. Always wanted to try a Charlie Christian neck pickup. A few winders make a modern version of the CC that doesn't need an extra-deep rout like vintage ones made for a hollowbody where depth wasn't an issue. I see 'em in neck position on Teles once in a while.

I've actually been thinking about a staple pickup for an Aerodyne Tele with a neck P90; that would be a simple drop-in replacement. I have a staple at the neck on one of my Les Paul Customs and it's fabulous - clear, fat & complex, and a bit less ornery than a P90.

The Charlie Christian still calls to me, but the Aerodyne has no pickguard so a CC isn't practical for this guitar.

Here ya go Chris -- these are awesome--
bare bones pur rock beast......

mine is beat to carp (how I got it cheap) but who cares plays GREAT sounds great and I aint gotta worry about scratching it or keeping it in a case hidden in a back closet ...
I can GRIP IT AND RIP IT -- spill beer coffee-- dog snot -- whatever on it -- dont matter.........
1 splittable Seymor Duncan....and tone knob--- 24 frets...................grip it and rip it
