For me, the smallest core strings would go first... D and high E...then A....
Wouldn't go out of tune so much as "pop!" At an inopportune moment. Then people start throwing feces...just kidding, usually ice cubes 'n stuff. I did use my backup often enough. I also had to keep a drop D guitar with me...so 3 guitars at every gig.

Best Drop-D guitar I ever had is the Schecter C1 Hellraiser string-through.

O.K. at the risk of sounding "corksniffey" --- this Peavey Predator EXP ---is REALLY good....the neck is great freboard and frets feel comfortable and familar. -- the Trem makes me act like an 18 year old again----- but the weight, the "fit and finish" and SOLID ness of this guitar FAR exceed its price point.
Tuners work great-- well till I LOCKED it down for the floyd.....trem floats very well --- only has 2 springs in back but I am using 9's --the paint, and body bidning are well done......pickups sound SPECTACULAR---I was planning on ripping them out -- but they sound to good they are "in" ...all in all a very good bit of kit everything works as it should......

If you can score one --- or see them at a pawn shop or used place--- dont pass them by so handily---- pick it up--- you MIGHT get a pleasant surprise.....I did

I don't doubt you one bit.
I recently reconditioned a Tracer for a friend...the single pickup was spectacular. Very aggressive, but cleans up with a flick of the volume knob. Peavey really has produced some gems throughout the years...looks like you've found one. Congrats!

That's why I picked up my C1 Classic. It's a monster...but a little too blingie for me, if I have to look at it. Thankfully, when I'm playing it I don't have to look at it.

Good looking guitar.....I'm not crazy about the 'Vine Of Life,' neither was I crazy about the "Celtic Cross" inlay on my Hellraiser, but it's a super light, super solid guitar and the EMG's hit a tube amp as hard as a Tube Screamer...plus the abalone inlay is really well done...If it would have had six-inline keys and 24.7" scale, I would have never started producing my own guitars...

It's a good looking guitar too!

So....does it flutter? Does it do that cricket chirp? G 9th fret harmonic, push with your pinky, let it slide off the bar, listen to it shake sorta thang?

yes.......and its taking a little getting used to as I am somewhat lazy and tend to REST my hand on the bridge.......well---- that creates all sorts of tonal variations on this beastie! WHo needs the bar.....just roll your wrist to get light trem effects.........loving it

Yep. I remember my first Floyd. I play so heavy handed that I gotta block them.

THE D'addarios seem to holding well....some additional adjust (re tuning ) etc did occur this a.m. as --- well I have NO IDEA how long the guitar was "stringless" and it came to me from about as far as it could in the contiguous U.S. (Washington State) --so-- the climate change--- global warming--anthrax and other issues needed time to settle out and adjust......I had to tweak the neck and the action just a touch....again this is a wood product traversing many miles and climates ......I say this to point out --- it is NOT BECAUSE ITS A CHEAP GUITAR-----any guitar at any price point I am certain would require "acclimatization" ----had to look that up did I use it right?---

So I am laying down some tasty WHAMMY BAR screeching and howling this A.M.
