High Voltages After Headfirst Origin 50 Mod

actually @smitty_p I been playing my Origin 20 most the last couple hours....... its a stellar amp for the OLD marshall tone plexi "ish" (lord the real plexi owners are going to have a :poo: fit) ....
ISH people settle DOWN!

it doesnt do metal modern -- as a MATTER OF FACT I traded the DSL40head for this Origin 20 head ....becasue -- frankly I dont do a lot of high gain modern metal ... more blues rock and improve jazz...... the origin is AWESOME for that --
you can throw a metal pedal in front of it and "get there" ......but why you have a BANDIT if you want punch your face out gain

Im really JUST delving into the origins tones.....

I have a Marshall Master LEad 12 that has SPOILED me on vintage 70's Marshall yumminess.......... (man that amp sounds good)

Even slamming an Origin with a TS-9, it doesn't put out the level of tone/gain that Jason Tong is getting through just the Origin alone with his mod...

true ... but again -- not al of us want face melting gain from an Origin .... I like it as is .. for what it is
again I have a peavey VK20mh or a Bandit 112 both with stuber uber levels of gain .......if I want face melting gain ... and if that isnt enough I can throw a pedal in front of them (insanity) but I can .......

I think our friend smitty was looking for LESS face melting gain (he has a bandit 2x12 I believe??) thats enough for melt your face AND punch you in the balls gain there.....

I really don't think it's "face melting" but rather a certain tonal character you can't get out of a stock Origin.

For example, you can get massive gain from a Mesa, but it also lacks a certain tonal quality, so I'm not pursuing only high gain, but a specific set of frequencies.

Listen beginning at 0:47 and tell me if you think that gain level quantifies as "face melting?"

OH also @smitty_p another FINE amp for BOTH fenderish (ish) cleans and MARSHALL -ish GAIN -- is the BASSBREAKER line -- yes yes -- we all know that wanker in the video on the other thread sayd they are crap and cant be worked on but--- I think I posted proof otherwise...

ANYWHOOOoooooooo

Bassbreakers can be snagged cheaper than Marshalls (used) and make lovely Marshall-ish (ish people) tone s

Wouldnt a tone boost pedal do the same (yoru right its not face melting) it is a DIFFERENT flavor to the Origin ........I do like it -- not saying its bad -- but it involves soldering.... (horror) so Ill just avoid that thank you

SMITTY nice video here on the combos tones.
they arent metal amps really --- Hell my Marshall Valvestate 8020 combo does a MUCH tighter 80's hair band metal tone by far than the Origin -- w/ or w/out mod

That tone is a combination of the extra gain stage and all the diodes from the "Jose" modification. I can't touch it with any pedals that I have tried thus far.

Interesting. I’m not really interested in getting another amp, right now. But, I do like the description you’re making.

I have little use or interest in the modern, high-gain metal sound. But, pairing something like the Origin (as you’re describing it) with another amp for clean sounds is of interest to me. I don’t want to buy another amp; I’m hoping to pull off what I want with my current equipment. But, knowing about the Origin is a nice option.

FYI-- a solid state Marshal Master LEad 12 will do all the CLEANS of the origin as well.....for less $ ..........(hey just being honest) it does "70s' break up as well.... it will not do face melting metal in any realm ...........but again -- you have a PEAVEY -- your covered int eh GAIN realm lol
I too have peavey -- they do lovely cleans and face melting metal but they do NOT get that Marshall ......chimey...blimey brit "tone" thing that a Marshall does........IVe tried for HOURs --- it wont do it

Actually, I would possibly be content with my current Peavey Transtube. But, I don’t like the way it takes pedals. I haven’t used it in awhile, but as I recall there was a certain harshness. But, maybe I should get my pedal board back to the house and experiment some more.

So, dumb question, but is the Origin 20 actually any good?

Bear in mind, I care next to nothing for super high-gain sounds, so the Origin’s ability to do that is not really on my radar. But, how does it sound as a medium to hard rock platform?
Does anyone ever unplug the effects pedals long enough to find out what the amp actually sounds like?

The Headfirst Modifications has great cleans.
