First of all, congrats!
As for the '50s wiring, as always, you should feel free to experiment, but I've tried it on my guitars, and ended up going back to the modern wiring.
I totally get what it's supposed to do. But, the result of losing volume by turning down the tone control got really irritating.

I can agree with this. I probably wouldn’t change them out just for the sake of changing. And for my Frankentele, the neck I purchased came without tuners, so I figured what the heck.The one and only benefit is quicker string changes. Other than that there is really no reason to switch them out.
